2010s - Decade of the Beard?

Young whippersnappers sporting huge beards is greatly devaluing the whole thing. A beard should be earned with time and ought to evolve accordingly, passing through various stages. But no, now it's just straight from puberty to Gandalf. Bah!

Same with tattoos. Kids now get a full sleeve as their first tattoo.

Beards are a great way to hide your unimpressive jawline and cheekbones

I've had facial hair for a few years now, can't really see myself going back, I look so young without it. Agreed that facial hair is pretty trite now tho but that's fashion for you, give it a decade and everyone will be clean shaven again

Stoked to watch OA II. The movement thing never bothered me, anyone familiar with Druidic studies will recognize the importance of movement to get to higher planes.

I've had a full beard off and on since like 2000. before then it was like chin strap or goat tee and at one point a rat tail beard. The most impressive stage of my beard was around 9/11 when I didn't shave or trim for like 9 months. Got dirty looks after 9/11 on campus so I trimmed it down and never reached that feat again. Now, my beard is really salt and pepper like. I usually grow it for a month then shave and repeat these days. I haven't shaved all summer so far.

i've got a slightly overgrown 5 o'clock shadow because not maintaining your grooming has been a happening and very acceptable fashion statement in the melrose area of los angeles for a minute

I've had a beard since around 99 or 2000 or so, soon after I finished school. Never grown it out too crazy, usually trim it once a month, and shave the neck regularly.

15 o'clock shadow?

Imagine a world where you'd be sentenced to death if you didn't have long fumanchu style facial hair. Men, women, and even hormone supplemented babies with fumanchu at least 6 inches long. Also, your eyebrows would have to be at least 6 inches long each, and the part that hangs off the sides of your head has to be rolled/curled upwards, so it looks like you're always frowning.

This is what could very well happen if humans colonize Mars.

actually yes - I often trim it without ever shaving

I got mad scruff on me face. What's weird is that the men in my family are slowly able to grow good beards as they go through adulthood. But at least I have more facial hair then my dad did growing up.

I had a chinstrap from when I was able to grow one (17?) for like 10 years off and on, mostly on I think. The fatter I got the more I clung to the chinstrap. I finally gave up on it I think in 2012, it just felt like it was giving the wrong impression. Still have a horrible jawline and get razor burn but I don't see myself growing it back any time soon. Maybe if I lost like 70 lbs and wanted that rugged accidentally sexy look. But right now it would be blatant fat camouflage and that's just sad.

Yeah I have more than any in my family. Still a little patchy on my cheeks though. Thankfully baldness seems absent from both sides of my family.

It's interesting who can crank out huge beards and who can't. I have a friend whose family has been in South Texas for centuries, a true Tejano Hispanic yet he has this huge red ZZ Top level beard. He also has green eyes. Turns out part of his ancestry to the Canary Islands. He could be part Guanche for all I know.

there are a lot of people of czech and germany ancestry in texas/north mexico (hence brass instruments and modelo and czech stop etc) so im not that surprised that some of that good teutonic / slavic beard growth gene got in there somehow

yeah that's possible to but they mostly lived in central texas, the rocky hill country especially. his family is from corpus christi which is a different region so im not sure that's the only explanation. Spanish conquistadors had beards after all.

^ Fails to mention that the decline around 1913 coincides with WWI and the arrival of chemical warfare, which demanded clean shaven soldiers for that snug gas mask fit.
