There's a lesser known film he's great in called The Frisco Kid that I'd recommend. He's a naive Polish rabbi trying to get to San Francisco from Philly and is helped by an aloof but kind hearted bank robber played by Harrison Ford. It's a comedy but one with a lot of emotional moments, the kind of film Wilder exceeded in.
