apple have been losing design people to windows for a long time now. lots of artists moved over to surface when it came out for example. cad/architecture/engineering has always been windows focused, 3d design/animation too. video editing is fairly evenly split at this point I think. graphic design and publishing was the apple base, but windows has been eating into that for a while now.

 

as a cad/arch person the new surface desktop is completely useless. architecture has completely adapted to mouse and monitor drafting and there is never ever any need to swivel your screen down. if we need to sketch we sketch the old fashioned way. this thing looks like more for rich deviantart people with patreons to draw more sonic and tails kissing.

Watching this keynote, I'm beginning to think all these tech companies are just treading water now for some time (and some time to come). They're just introducing things people don't really need - smart watches, that stupid new magic menu thing. Who needs these? It's almost as if they just don't know what to introduce next that they think people will like.

I haven't seen a single thing from Apple in five years now where I've been completely blown away and thinking 'Wow. I have to buy that!"

That magic toolbar seems totally counter-intuitive - something I'd never imagine from Apple. Wouldn't it be better to place it right above the touch pad? As it is, you've got to reach over all the keys.

zenbook pro is very similar and more powerful and it's only $1500 + you can still play video games when you want to and it has touch screen
