Lopez I liked your post not gonna quote the whole thing but I mention it because I think if I were to see her play live I'd enjoy the set...just not sure I'll ever get into her tunes generally though.

These kind of disparaging 'it's like a child made it' remarks tend to mean the music is beyond the understanding of the listener describing it.

Bodes well for an artist seeking their own voice and a long career.

it's been a good year for new music but i can't think of anything else that i'm looking forward to more than the new jlin. 

got the album today, sounds great loud, great flow, a strong, definitive step up from the first album. really enjoying it.]

wow the press for this is hilarious. So clueless it's almost insulting. Why dumb shit down for readers? Just write about it intelligently and those that care will figure out what you're referring to. acting like jlin has just appeared a priori. What a stupid angle. I just listened to the jeff mills essential mix from 98 and it's about 1000x more "sound of the future" and "pounding rhythms" or whatever shit phrases these journalists use. Still amazing to me how buried second wave Detroit stuff is, stateside at least. Buried by shitty hip hop. Fuck you Rick Rubin.

I have been enjoying this now it's out. I agree about the press, although I didnt hate the Pitchfork review. New Yorker spot was awful. The press is very hype heavy.

 

As far as the album goes, it is definitely unique, and while I am not always in the mood, there is a certain spot where this music hits just right. I appreciate albums like that. I was just thinking about how James Ferraro does that to me with every album - really off putting if youre in the wrong headspace, but perfect in it's own little niche. I wonder how much music I have passed up on because I didnt come at it in the right headapace. Like the one time I understood the appeal of Autechre because I had smoked weed laced with PCP and was having a panic attack and it fit so right.

 

Anyway, havent tried dancing to this, but it should be super fun and exausting. Wanna give Carbon 7 a shot, it's something different...

Will check her work out. I am excited for Mu and Jlin getting a lot of hype around this release from the press!
