Surprised nobody reacted to this one yet, mk1 was my fav elektron box of the last few years so a mk2 is a treat. I'm trying to learn ableton 12 on my spare time and Operator is an absolute beast so I don't need it but I certainly like to own one ! (but pricing, ouch)

Certainly nice to get more features, tho I'm not going to be clamouring to get the mark 2 just yet.

The new synth engines seem to be more fleshed out versions of the wavetable & supersaw machines from the Syntakt. The drum engine is a nice shortcut for dialing in percussion but I really dont mind the long way round. Also I dont particularly need 16 tracks nor 128 step sequencer nor euclidian. Maybe something to consider in a few years when the prices have settled and any potential hardware bugs/issues have been ironed out. Kinda waiting on seeing what the Tonverk is.

Putting a wavetable engine in one of these boxes has seemed like a no-brainer to me for a long time. Sounds like they finally did it.

The problem I have with all these grooveboxes is that they're great for getting a 4 or 8 bar idea going but going from there to a fully finished track is a huge pain and I already have way too many 8 bar sketches of tracks. Getting a basic idea down is not the bottleneck to actually finishing records.

I was watching this video live, and it was hard to watch! The talk-over levels were too low, and the music was too loud! and the narrative was aimed at 12-year-olds, I guess.

Anyway, I have an MK1 and I love it, but 16 tracks are something I can't disregard + it has various machines and probably new ones to come! I also have a Syntakt, and it makes things harder because ST + Dn works just fine as they are currently, especially after the latest ST update. Maybe I'll upgrade DN shortly; we'll see. I'm eying some other synths atm too.

I checked parts of the video yesterday through MBP speakers, and like you I also noticed the voice being much quieter than the synth. Some "what are they saying, I don't understand" kind of impression.

Kinda want a DN now that the DN2 is out. Seeing some super cheap prices on craigslist, less than $400 USD. I just did this with the digitakt as well, picked up a 1st generation. I didn't like the limitations of these smaller form factor boxes but now I'm embracing them. Getting the digitone would complete the trio. Realistically I don't need one, but at this price it's hard to pass up.

I'll definitely grab a Digitone at some point, and I really like the new features.  Especially the comb filter plus noise engine possibilities, and the free allocation of 16 voices over 16 tracks.

Right now though, I'm jonesing for a Blokas Midihub to solve my midi woes and to open up an input in my setup for the BCR32 when that finally releases.  I'm starting to see how useful some midi filtering and routing would be to help me out with some of my older bit of gear, like my Roland SC-155.

Hey all. Just wanted to give a heads up that i going to be selling a bunch of my hardware. i would prefer that this gear goes to a good home & to some peeps with good taste in music so i'm going to list it exclusively here on WATMM first before putting it up on Reverb / Ebay / etc. i'm still working on getting all the pictures together & deciding on the prices but when i have that all set in the next day or 2 i will make a thread in the Gear Box section and let you know here. Here is a list of everything i'm selling:

Nord Modular G2 engine (fully expanded to max DSP with internal expansion card) - mint condition

Elektron Machinedrum MK II (non-userwave) - mint condition

Elektron Analog Four (first rev) - mint condition

Elektron Octatrack (first rev) - excellent condition

Yamaha FS1R FM synth - excellent condition.

Dave Smith Instruments Evolver keyboard - mint condition

Dave Smith Instruments Evolver desktop - excellent condition

Roland V-Synth XT - good condition. (the main selection knob is a little skippy and could probably use a cleaning or replacement.)

Oberheim Matrix 1000 (upgraded with enhanced midi cc control of internal parameters)- excellent condition but needs internal battery replaced. (this will require some soldering skills)

Novation Remote 25 SL keyboard controller (this is the older model with the dual screens) - mint condition

Roland A-880 8 in / 8 out midi patchbay - good condition

Samson S-patch plus 48 point audio patchbay - excellent condition

obviously, most of this gear is oriented towards experimental electronic music / sound design / etc... so i don't want it to end up in someones church polka band. please help me find this gear a good home! all items will be shipped from northern California. I've also got an 8u tabletop open-frame rack & a bunch of audio & midi cables that i will throw in for free for anyone who buys something & wants them. feel free to pm me with any questions!

The decline of Elektron... Cenk would've tore this synth a new one.

Also finally got myself a decent compressor. What have I been missing this whole time...

Here's a quick little acid jam with it.

nice and crunchy

Yeah. Really happy with it, probably this isn't news for anyone here but it's so nice to just put it on the master and play/mix a whole track into the compressor from the get go. Does wonders on the 808ish drums too.

Typical kick + pad tune:

wasn't familiar with this bugbrand. Looked them up, love the aesthetic of their stuff. Does the sidechain EQ do anything if you don't have an external sidechain input?

Yep, works like you'd hope, using the filtered signal as a sidechain if there's no sidechain plugged in (saves you from patching in a sc at all if you just want bass ducking).

I'm quite intrigued by their PTDelay also. A really lo-fi digital delay with nice analog filtering and a number of drive stages..

i’m going to be buying the new Korg opsix module. increased polyphony, perfect form factor, i’m ready for some deep hardware FM playtimes.

it's now on the way to me. making some space for it  :catbreadcut:

currently GASsing for an Intellijel Cascadia:

Intellijel are having a sale on the Cascadia so i took the plunge, should be here next week. a good winter project to make a spot for it in the studio and see if semi-modular has any place in my thick skull.

former WATMMer started a synth company and is doing some cool shit here: http://www.futuresoundsystems.co.uk/cric.html it's some GAS worthy stuff, weird & interesting approach, sounds get pretty interesting from the little bit i've heard so far.

Hey! Is that FutureImage?! I remember him being very knowledgeable about gear! Loved his MD+Mnm stuff too!

Picked up a used Analog Rytm MKII from Guitar Center for $550. They heavily discounted it because they said the E knob was bent and non-functioning. Turns out it does work but it is bent and a little wobbly when turning it, otherwise it's in perfect condition.

Almost a year later snagged a matching Analog Four MKII for $650. Came with a decksaver and case. Definitely a pricing error.

great combo and especially for those prices, hot damn.

  • 3 weeks later...

Feel like I'm gassing over everything in Skee Mask's studio. He's got a lot of good shit, well thought out. I'm kind of a synth hardware + DAW effects person right now but the idea of having a bunch of effects I can patch-bay with sounds really fun. Not going to do that right now. I just got an audiofuse 16Rig interface which is almost a virtual patch bay with the amount of IO it has so I'm tempted to start hoarding rackmount effects all of a sudden
