The main woman in this was in Babylon which was on channel 4 (UK) and really fuckin good. Written by the peep show writers who also did four lions and the episode of black mirror where everyone has an implant in their head thay records everything they see (ie the best one). Worth checking out maybe? Anyway I'm going to find a plot synopsis of this so I can also laugh at the end

watched first episode - loved everything after the insanely long intro - i.e. her backstory - before that I was intrigued but kind of turned off by the d-bag bully kid. pretty show, it's well shot and refreshingly artsy (i.e. no overboard of licensed songs, ad tie ins, indie tropes). also liked seeing the actress who played phyllis from the office in something else.

As soon as she gave the pep talk to the bully's teacher in the first episode I was done.  Most people who thought Lost was brilliant would probably really like this though.

Really enjoyed this - open-ended story line that had some really good elements in it.

The five movements, very "new age" - druids and witches do movements like this to enter different spaces.

...in particular, i've noticed a lot of split over the cafeteria scene, especially due to the movements. some people found it to be cheesy, laughably bad, and even show ruining. i found it very powerful and touching.

very interesting interview with the writers/directors on the topic of the movements: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/oa-creators-defend-movements-959026

I also loved the ending. Like you thought it was a really incredibly emotional scene.

Good interview, though I hope Zac knows you're not actually supposed to eat the edamame pods....

I called what OA was an acronym well in advance, was pretty hilarious when she revealed it.

don't think i can make it past the first epi. the only good thing about it was that the opening credits started about 10 mins before the end of the episode, just to be ruined by then playing the end credits   :catrage:

theres too many shows

I'm more irritated with how it leaves off than the series as a whole. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief that interdimensional travel is achieved through interpretive dance with results not visible to those that are not looking for it, but the books under her bed were a monster question mark that throws a wrench into the series at the worst possible moment.

i don't think there ever was any interdimensional travel...all that was bullshit, but the dance nevertheless saves the day, if only by distracting the gunman for a few seconds allowing matey to tackle him. question is, even if her whole story was made up, does it matter? lives were still saved...if she wasn't a mentalist and hadn't got all the team to believe her, then there would have been a massacre. maybe she was crazy, but maybe she was meant to be, maybe she really is an angel but in a different kind of way...

^ that's pretty much how i took it as well. open for a few different interpretations, from all bs to all true. and a few in between.

I've tried to view it both ways, and always get hung up on how she returns sighted, and in love with some high school football player who also had a NDE, if the whole thing is a sham. Some part of it must have had elements of truth, even if she can't open a gateway, she was missing and still came back alive.

Plot aside, Brit Marling made an interesting comment in an interview about how this is an exciting time to tell stories. She needs to earn troll points if the whole idea was just to keep people watching to the end with no definitive resolution.

I'm pretty sure I turned to my girlfriend in the middle of the first or second episode and said something like "is this some kind of Touched By An Angel prequel?".

Also does anyone else think the guy who plays homer looks like a young Bill Hicks?

I watched about three episodes. Utter rubbish. Absolutely all over the place. The narrative (if it can be called such a thing), is just a series of things that make no sense whatsoever. If this is what passes for interesting, gripping TV nowadays then I'm out.

It feels like a bunch of teenagers smoked a heap of pot, scribbled down ideas and scenes on post-it notes and then just filmed them in some random order.

Haven't seen anything so bad for quite a while.

Dance routines to access other dimensions? Lol.

Guest Chesney

I think the writers tried really hard to get people talking about this that's why they left the ending open to interpretation. People talking in turn making cult following and never ending theories. Much like Donnie Darko, Twin Peaks and BoC to a degree. Whether they are gonna pull that off is yet to be seen.

I enjoyed it but did nearly spit my rum out of my mouth when the interpretive dance started. I had to try hard to get over that and accept it. I thought it was done really well and enjoyed it for what it was. Not something to obsess over though.

Homer reminded more of Bobcat Goldthwait.
