Adult Swim - Noise compilation

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Adult Swim has a new compilation out titled "Noise" and that's essentially what it is. Regardless of how you may or may not feel about their shows (Rick and Morty is about the only current show I care for on there) their music comps are usually pretty on-point.
Merzbow, Prurient, Arca, Pharmakon, Wolf Eyes, etc, from a Cartoon Network affiliate is a bold move...

NOISE Tracklist:
01. clipping. – “Body For The Pile” (feat. SICKNESS)
02. MELT-BANANA – “Case D in the Test Tube”
03. EYE – “Mega Equipment for Popsicle”
04. Vessel – “PRIHATIN”
05. Sadaf – “The Clinic”
06. Arca – “Bussy”
07. Pharmakon – “Squall”
08. Tanya Tagaq – “Erie Changys”
09. BEAST – “You’ve Got Rabies On Your Breath!”
10. Dreamcrusher – “Sick World”
11. Perc – “Porthia”
12. Noveller – “Processional”
13. Merzbow – “For Adult”
14. Prurient – “Everything You Know Is Wrong”
15. Hassan Khan – “CASIOTONE GIGANTJA”
16. Wolf Eyes – “Subterranean Life”

Interesting move, just put it on now. Just for posterity, here's the link to a stream of the compilation:

I guess this means the rise of merzbro's across the world, might be a good thing.

There's never enough of those.

I'm assuming, yes, there can't be that many noise artists called EYE out there. Then again Planet Mu signed both Ital and Ital Tek so who knows

never heard someone rap over noise before

Apparently you've never heard of the noise rap genre. Pretty solid shit, though.

Edit:

This is actually a really good comp. Never heard of Melt-Banana but that track is amazing; sort of like Deerhoof meets Atari Teenage Riot.

Dig the love for Melt Banana, one of the best bands of the Japanese noise rock bands out there. Still need to see them live.

Do Pharmakon and Prurient qualify as this? They seem to lead the "p4k noise" crossover trend, much like pitchfork placed a bunch of hype on Deafheaven over other metal acts.

Anyway, seems like a decent comp, AS has always put out good releases.

Definitely see Melt-Banana live! I know others in here have already sung their praises, but it's really just an incredibly fun, super energetic live experience.

Can't speak for the Prurient stuff Pitchfork has been jizzing over, but his random stuff I heard back in the day was just as harsh and loud as Incapacitants, C.C.C.C., etc.

Check out my split with Tacomaniacx, Masterfully Racy, and Malevolent Alien Being: Progeny from Yuggoth Out now on Placenta Recordings!

I think Prurient and Pharmakon are pretty legit, although they're definitely on the more namedroppable end of things since noise has moved further out of its niche. Certainly the number of new age synth artists who started out in the noise scene (OPN, Emeralds, Pulse Emitter) have helped draw attention to it all. I haven't listened to any new Merzbow since 24 Hours: A Day of Seals, about ten years ago (Jesus, 14 years!).

For the most part I like the DIY end of noise stuff. This place is great for scoping out cheap and free releases. The main forum went down the fucking drain ages ago, but there's still a lot of stuff on the new releases board. And my favourite noise label Rainbow Bridge recently set their back catalogue to name-your-price on Bandcamp. SO much to download there.

Anyway, this comp looks pretty solid regardless, gonna give it a run through tomorrow morning!

holy fuck yes. Charlie was my first exposure to them, found it via Audiogalaxy - remember that?

Also saw them in '01 / '02 or something, was lush.

Out of sight for a long time, then saw them again a few years ago in Cologne. But that was well different from back in the days, they were only the vocalist and the guitarist. The vocal lady had some handheld blinky thingie which played the beats. Musically, it was pretty much the same as 10 years earlier, for better or worse.

trying to remember how I bumped into them... likely M.Patton mentioned them in an interview or something lol

Yeah they are both legit. Dominic Fernow has been active and very prolific for close to 2 decades now, Hospital Records is a pretty well respected and infamous tape label.
