I think what's almost as dangerous as his current power level, is helping to legitimize this bullshit alt right movement to a lot of people who hadn't heard of it before and were just generally uneducated and racist. Now, like the Tea Party, they have a rallying cry to organize around, and Trump's labeling of what media organizations are "fake news" was not only adopted by this crowd of hicks, but they'll teach it to their children and it will get passed down as fact. Some regions in the Southern US seem to be regressing, and once again we have a Mason / Dixon line, now with added coastal zones of liberals on the East and West coasts where a lot of media infrastructure is located. That electoral map was scary and should be a wake up call to the Dems they can't marginalize the entire central US.
