+1. i too used to wonder why he was such a target of right wing hatred, and it's simply because he's rich and invests in a lot of philanthropic ventures: eg he gave away about $18 billion to his organization the open society foundation which basically makes governments accountable to their citizens. 

to a right winger, that means he's evil and obviously has to blame for such things as "people shouting at trump" or "caravans of illegal immigrants approaching the .us boarder"

They (billionaires) use their shitloads of money to elect/support/control politicians in the highest echelons of government for furtherance of policies fitting their personal interest and ideologies.  US is effectively an oligarchy, and the correlation between campaign war chests and electoral victory (as well as how congress as a body has like a 15% approval rating, yet something like 80-90% of incumbents running win) speak volumes to this.
