xox
maybe this can help: https://www.thoughtco.com/what-is-the-definition-of-art-182707 http://users.ecs.soton.ac.uk/harnad/Papers/Harnad/harnad00.form.htm https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/1998/07/mus-j14.html https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/1998/07/mus-j23.html https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/1998/07/musl-j29.html it's easier to talk about form, i know. also, it's easy to talk about form and content in rihanna's music but music of beethoven or autechre is a totally different thing. i just wanted to say that we can't speak about art if we only talking about form and we can't speak about future music without talking about form and content of music of past and present first. dingformung
Only read the first one so far but I think I know more what you mean. I try again: As everyday life in modern societes gets planned out more and more there is an increasing lack of adventure. In future this will even be more so. So art will portray either motifs of boredom and/or attempts to break out of it. Or it will completely turn away from material reality as it is not interesting enough, discovering the realms of fiction and the inner world. What the exact fictions will be is hard to predict as they are completely free then and less bound to actual events happening in the world. The inner world however will still be mysterious and dangerous, and music/art could function as a guide Maybe we already are at this point Edited March 28, 2017 by darreichungsform Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide dingformung's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/92925-the-future-of-music/page/2/#findComment-2535719 Share on other sites

Barely related, but-- I was thinking about "the content of music", and "what the future will hold", and well- imagine if you're on Mars in 50 years, listening to Richard D. James Album. That would really bring to light how life is truly what we make it, internally. Cuz listening to Milkman in your dune buggy on Mars ain't applicable to shit. What the fuck does that have to do with anything... sweepstakes
Much of the innovation in electronic music comes from technical constraints, where people wanted to make music but were too broke to afford proper gear so they had to get creative. These constraints turn out to allow greater expression and more interesting techniques and music. A person can learn the surface area of the possibilities of a limited tool in a much more visceral, subconscious, muscle-memory kind of a way than a do-everything, loaded-to-the-gills spaceship control panel. These tools and the techniques and gestures performers use with them also contribute to defining the culture around the music. The future I want to believe in embraces those limitations, without being anachronistic or retro. The interfaces are simmered down to their meaningful limitations, so that the ones worth exploring, that spur creativity, are retained, and the shitty ones that just slow you down (like menu diving or preset management or twisting on-screen knobs) are removed or obscured or abstracted into something easier or "smarter". AI/ML/algo stuff could become more relevant but most people won't give a shit about it, even if it sounds amazing, unless they can recognize the humanity in it. Not just pressing the play button and hearing cool robot music. I hope to hear more complecting of those automated tools with human physical virtuosity, earned with real sweat and tears. The machines are us, just faster and more precise. We can collaborate with them on a deeper level, with faster and richer mutual feedback, and we should.
