Neil Young

Neil Young is one of those truly beloved and legendary musicians. The kind of artist that even people who don't care for that much nonetheless appreciate. He's put out a diverse yet rich enough catalog that there should be a starting point for just about anybody. There's also a really straightforward and no nonsense way he writes songs that I think is easy to emulate but hard to master for all those who he's influenced. One of the few lyricists I always find immediately engaging (I'm usually picky about that)

I would also say he's one of the last truly to not compromise artistically or back away from his obsessions, even ones like his hi-fi audio endeavors, there's an endearing aspect to that...at worst we can kind of chuckle at and say "yeah sure whatever Neil"

totaly agree with the man from Austin TX

a classic album which doesn't get mentioned much (was the first album I bought of Neil Youngs) is Weld where you his tracks drenched with feedback (like Cortez The Killer)

I'm pretty sure Sonic Youth was support on this tour (wish I'd gone to see that!)

Weld and Year Of the Horse are both great, they both come across as kind of reiterations of Live Rust and you can really hear how he had developed between them.

Every so often I meet someone who thinks Neil Young is a terrible guitarist.

That's when you know it's safe to disregard their opinions about music, or at least guitar.

Seen a few docos on youtube about Neil Young and he just comes across as so laid back and perfectly cool. An admirable example of a rock star if ever there was one.

enjoy!

I know it seems crazy nowadays but I went out and blindly bought that Weld double cd (which would not of been cheap) on just reading the the few reviews in NME, Melody Maker and quite possibly Kerrang!. All three music papers had it as a 5/5 or 10/10. I didn't even know who Neil Young was and had never heard of him. But I just went and bought it. Back in those days music journalism was really important.

Id be proud to be an American if Neil was American but he's from Canada. Fuck. I hate my country

It's arbitrary to some degree.

Terry Gilliam is probably the same way for Brits.

Also Ted Cruz is Canadian but that didn't stop his supporters and the Bush family isn't from Texas but from MA and CT
