I've known about this video for years and it's kinda crazy how many views it has gotten over time

Regardless of opinion about this band or song, you can't argue that feeling of  :wtf: when he pitches and equalizes a sample just so and it suddenly becomes a sound you are familiar with

Anyone have any other videos like this? I.e. "remaking" an artists song, sample treating, how to create a widely-recognizable sound, etc. I find them both enriching and vastly entertaining

Ali Jamieson and co wrote a few such guides, to Xtal and Climbatize, for instance.

ah yeah, that Climbatize guide is great. It makes me realise how much of a sampling genius Liam is/was—so much of that album just sounds like synthesis or purpose-made recordings (I know there was a lot of Nord Lead on there as well, but still..).

doesn't have quite the nasty of the original - nice samplespotting though especially with the tapereverse

i guess if he'd do some bitcrushing on the breakbeats or roughen things up somehow, eqing and buscompressing stuff together he could get more of that original sound

what would that track originally been sequenced and mixed on/in?

Yeah this one still blows my mind. Makes me wonder about other electronica from that era.

I was trying to find one of this kid remaking Dilla's track "Waves" but it's no longer on YT, this is pretty good though as well
