Brainwaltzera is some beyond awful dogshit. It's not even 'The Room' entertainingly bad.

It's just fucking embarrassing to listen to. It's some fanboy doing paint-by-numbers idm.

I thought he just did paint-by-numbers afx but yesterday I listened to the album and realised he also did paint-by-numbers boc too.

If you're one of the people rating this album, and you're already acquainted with all the classic idm artists. Shame on you. Seriously.

Is this a legitimate comment? I really liked the Brainwaltzera album. Heck, it'll be in my top 10 too and yes, I'm acquainted with the classic IDM artists. It's not revolutionary or anything but I like AFX enough to like any successful and original 'paint-by-numbers' on it - which I by the way think it's not.

It might be entertaining if it was actually terrible but it's just bland and has zero personality. It's like listening to a rolling stones cover band covering another rolling stones cover band. Why bother?

Get in, all of you

Sounds like one of those fake leaks innit.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

As long as people are posting tracks with amen break fuck ups and 303 sound, i will not care about such rants. I actually like brainwalzeras sound. Poly-Ana even sounds better than the old aphex twin releases. Let him rip off this shit and make it better. He should also rip off autechres incunabula and make it better. The re release without remastering it current pop level really sucked.

So fuck all of you, thx...

I'm surprised Four Tet didn't make this list. Also surprised they didn't push the Mount Kimbie album which like Kelela's was also on Warp. The Alessandro Cortini record is amazing and wouldnt have crossed my radar if it wasn't on this list though now I see it's on many others too. Would have liked to see World Building and Narkopop on here as well. As I was trying to come up with my own list of top albums I realised that most of my favorite music this year was on EPs or weird bandcamp releases - not to mention Aphex bleep store.

As for the he-who-shall-not-be-named-on-WATMM aka brainwaltzera, I'm not surprised Poly Ana made the cut because they've been pushing the EPs and the LP on bleep a lot: all of them made "EP of the week" or "album of the week" on the store before this list.

Edit: and he did a mix for them too:

I've been a fan of this stuff from the soundcloud uploads which btw make up most of the music on all the records so far. Dont get why this is considered by many as a blatant rip off when most other new "IDM" artists sound a lot more like paint-by-the-numbers Aphex Twin than this (and I enjoy them too). Imao this record sounds more like a distilled version of  the classic warp/rephlex sound, kind of what burial did with ol stkool dnb and early dubstep/bass music. No shame in that

Probably cause the guy deliberately chose track titles that look a lot like Aphex's, tried to make his soundcloud look and sound like it was Aphex's, and basically kickstarted his whole career by trying to make people think he was Aphex

That left a bad taste in my mouth too, since i kinda fell for it initially, especially when Rich complimented a few of the tracks

But with more listens the tracks didn't match up to AFX's sound at all and actually sounded a bit like all of "them" but never quite the same

e.g. PolyAna sounds more like BOC to me

Still don't get the Jlin hype, might be that I don't listen to enough footwork stuff to compare to.

I found her first album a lot more engaging and out there but this one is being lauded upon by those who came in late (which is ok with me, she's fucking badass, sincere, and super unpretentious). She's def honed in on a distinct sound, it's "footwork" the same way Burial is "dubstep," i.e. it's kind of transcended the original style.

Like Auxien said, it's a perfectly decent album and solid. Still, it's a decent vocalist coupled with Jam City and Arca tracks. That's it. It could been a Night Slugs LP release in 2010. It's one of those albums (along with Mount Kimbie or Four Tet) that indie music fans are gushing over but when asked about it I have to hold back from explaining how fucking unimportant these albums are in every regard. Instead I'm just like "yeah, it's aight."

blanck mass was incredibly lame, as was forest swords. boring checklist music.

there were better planet mu releases than jlin although i really enjoyed the record.

Blanck Mass was weird enough to be memorable but hardly one of the top 2017 albums for me. it's like a softball "experimental" record for indie rock kids who are just starting to listen to shit that's remotely fringe.

The only things I liked from this were The Kid and Reassemblage. I've not listened to everything, though none of that excites me enough to bother either.

Yeah The Kid is only on the list I personally loved. Reassemblage and the Visible Cloaks albums were interesting. Need to check some of these other ones out but I don't feel like I missed out on not hearing those earlier in the year.

There's so much better stuff that came out this year. Really weird arbitrary (i.e. promo) list indeed.

I missed out altogether on this album called "Onism" by Photay. WATMM search turned up nothing. It's my favorite out of the picks but I live in the disco/house/Floating Points/Todd Terje camp anyway so it wasn't a hard sell. The problem is....this fucking cover

It's like...I dunno: how can I be sure that I really like it or am I just voting party lines due to the overtly Aryan nature of the cover? This year-end is a social justice minefield and I think I blew my left leg off by buying this one. Jokes aside, it's a lush record and full of soul.

Skimming through this and it sounds like Bonobo or Indian Wells (whose albums I think you'd like) with James Blake vocals to boot.

Last album cover seems less Burzum and more Bob Ross

idk I don’t think any indie kids who are giving weirder shit a shot are listening to Blanck Mass tbh. more like the animal collective solo LPs and random P4K certified stuff like Pharmakon (who is weirdly hyped like she is the only woman in the noise scene)

anyway I just really love World Eater tl;dr

i hate posts like this. yeah just list everything you found on mainstream music websites and call it "deeply affecting"

fuck off

Pretty much this, yeah. Just the marketing and hyperbole around releases these days makes me cringe. Everything is a "game changer", "most important release of the year", "deep and brooding", blah blah blah.

Uber pretentious.

Then again, not sure the PR teams at these labels would have much of a job if they just typed up "yeh bois grab this album it's full of aight tunes" as the description lol, even if that's the most accurate way to describe them.
