This one always bother the shit out of me, as Marvin Gaye is so superior to ELO. The Showdown song is just this cheesy fucking mess that sounds like someone tried to mix the Grease soundtrack or disco with Heard it Through The Grapevine. The problem is whenever I mention it to someone they can't hear the similarity. Anyway, every time this song comes on when I'm in the store I want to tear my hair out.

I haven't listened to them before, but the production on that track you posted sounds like bliss even on my shitty lap top speakers.  The fact that there was an era where that was what people got on commercial radio is kind of mind blowing to me.

Whoa that Rippingtons song rips some other famous song even more... probably why they call themselves the Rippingtons.  I believe it's a Michael Jackon song I'm thinking of...

 

Anyway, a duo covered a Clapton song earlier today at some function I was attending, the guitar part of which strongly resembles that classic organ bit from Beck - Where It's At, albeit in a different key.  It's one of the many Beck examples I couldn't think of earlier.  It may be coincidental, seeing as the Beck album was released a mere 6 months later.  Or he may be just that quick on the draw when it comes to grabbing a good idea when he hears it.

no it's not mj but i have the song in my head and don't know the name of the band neither the song... but yeah one hell of a famous song, just that start, i believe someone in the next posts will riddle it.
