Whoa.  Your mom's cool.  I had no idea what sort of music Maryanne Faithful made until now.  I always assumed it was wholesome folk-ish music for some reason... probably just the sound of her name,

This entire album

Stoked to watch OA II. The movement thing never bothered me, anyone familiar with Druidic studies will recognize the importance of movement to get to higher planes.

Marianne actually started out totally wholesome, singing quaint little ballads penned by Jagger/Richards etc, most notably 'As Tears Go By'. Somewhere between the mid 60ies and the late 70ies she had a really messy breakup with Mick Jagger (the above song is said to be inspired by that relationship and its ultimate dissolution) and became hopelessly addicted to heroin, living on the street for a period of time. She returned to the recording studio a fundamentally altered person with a voice that had dropped a full octave from chain smoking. From the darkness of those intervening years she stoked the artistic flame. 'Broken English' is a brilliant, underrated LP and I highly recommend it. Has a great cover of Lennon's 'Working Class Hero' which is even better than the original imo.

To be fair, it is a really good album.  Moms know what's up.

I swear it's also the gold standard of middle age dad audiophiles

oh yeah that deelite stuff was a mainstay too. bassomatic was just a happy accident where she got the tape for cheap one time before a road trip to florida and we basically listened to it the entire way there and back. the entire bassomatic album is a fuckin' killer (it's an early william orbit project)

i have really vivid memories of playing rented nes megaman games while we listened to bassomatic on the home stereo. seemed so futuristic

also her yelling as we would jump around to her eurythmics and tracy chapman albums making the record skip

Yeah it's that one album everybody's mom and dad bonded over.  Except for my parents, who were anti-hippy.  I actually can't think of one artist that really appealed to both my parents.

My mom's got a major KD Lang Boner.
