Alex standing there like a messiah at the end of the vid :)

Um...it's kinda catchy?

I struggle to hate on him, but it's tough sometimes.  Thomas needs to call the shots.

Btw..any one heard the new Thomas and Terrence Dixon collab? Some great tunes on there.

hahaha that youtube, how do you end up at THAT sound from 'huge glowing pulsating bulbous brain at the centre of the ultraworld' and that DOODEEDOODEEDUUDOO fucking awesome detuned almost aphex level stuff..... to that. Like some medicore Ektoplazm stuff

Well, the Orb has done that before that they put out something gut turningly poppy. I stopped following them for years after the Dream came out.. Even the name hurts my brain. I don't know what causes this? Maybe Alex runs out of drugs or goes to a rehab, lol. This time they had quite a good run from the Baghdad Batteries to COW (just ignore the Metallic Spheres..)

Marked as solved.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I actually like the Youth remixes of the Golden Clouds (Youth Gigantic Dreadnaught Dub Mix & Youth Nous Sommes Tous En Situation Irreguliere Ambient Mix) better than the album version. So, IDK.

It's not terrible but I get the feeling Paterson (or Youth) still hasn't got over the excitement of the concept of a sampler and so whacks in anything he's recently found whether it fits or not. Kinda like Coldcut in the late 80s/early 90s but they had the excuse of it actually being relativity new tech !

Yeah, it feels very amateurish in that way. It's just really leagues below a lot of stuff that's been put out as The Orb.

It’s weird to me that he keeps bringing Youth back in to the fold. The recent stuff with just Thomas is leagues better.

Turns out Fehlmann is on four tracks on this, and a huge team of other musicians are on it too - the lineup reads more like an early Orb album rather than one of the modern duo-based affairs.

Ok, this is a lot better than I expected. Rush Hill Road is still terrible, and there's nothing on the album that's quite up there with their best, but it's actually mostly instrumental, there are some nice Fehlmanny beats in places, 'Ununited States' is a gorgeous piano-led ambient piece, 'Soul Planet' is a 15 minuter that sounds like an updated version of a UFOrb track, and there are plenty of samples, weird noises, effects etc. that give it a kind of '90s Orb sound in general.

It's definitely no masterpiece, but the three singles are the worst tracks on it by a long stretch. Going to give it a few more listens before deciding whether it's worth buying or not but there's definitely some good stuff on here.

Glad to hear. I’m a sucker for the Orb - mine’s in the post.

that rush hill road song is like the kinda shit that "sittin at the computer intellectually deconstructing the track" me wouldn't listen to twice but dancefloor me would probably be into.

this wolfbane one tho lol are these samples supposed to be ironic? it's borderline youtube poop tier but not as compelling to listen to

speaking of the orb i've only heard the first two albums & love them dearly, odd that i haven't explored more because most of all y'alls seem to agree that there's at least a few other really special ones

Orbus Terrarum, Orblivion and the first Auntie Aubrey's Excursions Beyond the Call of Duty remix album are well worth getting if you love the first two; after that it's patchy, but generally the Fehlmann ones are solid - Okie Dokie, Baghdad Batteries, Moonbuilding and COW - but very different from the '90s stuff.

Orbus Terrarrum is god-tier. My favorite album of all time.

ty both for the suggestions

i love this very particular feeling of having an artist or band whose work has had a big impact on your life over the course of several years, and knowing that because of your sporadic listening habits there's a pretty decent chance you haven't even heard what could be your favourite work by them

holy shit dude im jealous of the journeys ahead. orbus terrarum, pomme fritz, orblivion are all absolute classics of monumental quality, just slightly different that the first two. and then live 93 is also essential desert island stuff. and moonbuilding 2703 AD from a few years ago was also a surprising return to form
