How “Fight Club” Created a Generation of Sh*tposters

the episode is from Crooked Media's podcast series called Offline, which explores the impact of the modern info space on society, journalism, politics, psychology, culture, activism, etc

cool episode that captures some profound stuff at the crossroads of culture, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and evolution

some interesting bits in this conversation. it's interesting everyone's take aways from things in hindsight. having seen it in the theater w/my GF twice when it came out our take aways were very different but such is reality in the moment. making a podcast about a movie is a direct invitation to have thoughts about it even if there weren't thoughts initially.

the gen-x and generational chatter i find a little off-putting because it's such generalizations but that's how that goes in this format anyways.. but still an interesting listen.

lols.. jfc.. had no idea there's a wikipedia for tinfoil hat nutters called wikispooks

https://www.wikispooks.com/wiki/Main_Page

a friend i hadn't seen in several years was in town and we had one of those wide ranging conversations and goofed off some about fringe things and he dropped this youtube on me yesterday which is a wild ride from the las vegas shooter to israel stealing nuclear fuel from USA to build nukes, to kennedy to blackrock etc..

edit: gets pretty off the rails at times in my estimation.  is kinda like "i just found the weird bookstore in the town i'm visiting and it has "anarchist's cookbook" on the shelf" type vibe if you were 15 yrs old and the internet didn't exist.

some of the comments are gold

Physicists Capture Elusive 4D 'Ghost' in CERN Particle Accelerator

https://www.sciencealert.com/physicists-capture-elusive-4d-ghost-in-cern-particle-accelerator

  Quote

There's a specter haunting the tunnels of a particle accelerator at CERN.

In the Super Proton Synchrotron, physicists have finally measured and quantified an invisible structure that can divert the course of the particles therein, and create problems for particle research.

It's described as taking place in phase space, which can represent one or more states of a moving system. Since four states are required to represent the structure, the researchers view it as four-dimensional.

This structure is the result of a phenomenon known as resonance, and being able to quantify and measure it takes us a step closer to solving a problem universal to magnetic particle accelerators.

"With these resonances, what happens is that particles don't follow exactly the path we want and then fly away and get lost," says physicist Giuliano Franchettiof GSI in Germany. "This causes beam degradation and makes it difficult to reach the required beam parameters."

Archaeologists have discovered a 4,000-year-old Egyptian tomb belonging to a prominent governor’s only daughter, Idi. She is buried inside two coffins—one stacked inside the other—covered in intricate decorations.

Her chamber was discovered near the tomb belonging to her father, Djefaihapi, who served as governor of the prosperous Asyut region, located along the Nile River. His burial was the largest non-royal tomb built during the Middle Kingdom, suggesting that Djefaihapi was one of the most prominent regional governors of the era.The site dates to Egypt’s Middle Kingdom, a period that stretched from around 2030 to 1650 B.C.E.

The electronic song “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” reduces host attack and mating success in the dengue vector Aedes aegypti

Highlights

We assessed the foraging, host-attacking and copulation activities of Aedes aegypti exposed to electronic music.

Music entertainment resulted in delayed response time and reduced visitation to host.

Females entertained with music attacked hosts much later than their non-entertained peers.

Blood feeding activity had low occurrence when music was played.

Adults entertained with music copulated far less than their peers under music-off condition.

The reason for this unexpected line of speculation derives from a new and truly remarkable archaeological discovery – the remains of an avus fox purposefully buried inside a human grave dating back 1500 years in a burial site at Cañada Seca, in Patagonia, Argentina.

Another avus fox had been found inside an even older human grave almost a decade previously elsewhere in Argentina, at Loma de los Muertos in General Conesa, but what makes the later, Patagonian find so interesting is that whereas the diet of the earlier specimen had not been examined, DNA analysis has shown that the Patagonian specimen had dined with prehistoric hunter gatherers and was part of their camp's inner circle.

p good recap on how we got to this point. and by "we" I mean Homo Sapiens...sadly billions of humans on this planet won't accept this truth, instead believing we appeared magically from a divine source.

While the majority of Zealandia may never host inhabitants—at least, not land-based ones—the would-be continent is now no longer simply lost. Researchers have finished mapping out the northern two-thirds of Zealandia, wrapping up the documentation of the nearly two million square miles of the submerged land mass.

this is fascinating.. especially considering sharks don't have the best eye sight. they must smell her she has some kinda vibe. she took a hook out of a shark's mouth then all the other sharks started coming to her to remove their mouth hooks.
