Mummy Calls is remarkably bad imo, impressively so. I don't know how you find this shit, goiter.

Well damn I wanted it to be average, not outright bad! I have failed.

I hope you will all find this one offensively average bordering on bad. I really liked eczem's rubric above so I will attempt to apply it:

5 points for some interesting ideas with the swirling panning flute, organ & tremelo'd guitar in a few parts, lyrics are veiled middling philosophy about growing up which is a perhaps a step-up from singing about a girl or love so 4 points for that. -2 for shocking mix decisions at times (especially muddy/neutered bass section) and -2 for uninspired chord progression which leaves me feeling an emotional flat-line.

lol nah man, those unexpected production flourishes on the instrumental sections go far and beyond any expectations of average. Took me quite by surprise. The vocals and chord changes are right on the money though. But unfortunately this is more of a 6 or even 6.5. I think you're on the right track though.

Ooh, controversial.

Behold, the most average mid-90's rock hit you could ever hope for:

It's like tofu for your ears.

The National is the soundtrack to a sad juice cleanse and dissatisfaction with the wallpaper in your hotel room.

How does this chart, letalone reach #1!?

Okay, I think I am getting this now. Out-average this shit:

There's a lot of average that went into that one, even in the choice of key signature.  it's like they could have had a much bigger hit, but decided to stick to the key that her producer could sing along to best rather than choose one befitting her voice.  All production choices are right in the middle of the road.  No dynamic payoffs, but catchy enough.  Stick some doo doo doos for whatever lyric blanks need to be filled.  Random key change in the bridge because that's what they heard the big pop hits do, but without the clever manipulation that normally goes with it.  Yeah, that's right in the average pocket I reckon.

This one was a real lottery draw:

i could post some cranberries songs too... and let them..... linger...

hootie and the blowfish - when their first album came out i was in a coffee shop and a guy came in who was friends w/the barista who was the owner and was young and attractive and he was clearly trying to impress her..  he had the CD and was just drooling about it and tell her 'you have to hear this song' and going on about it.. so she put it on and asked what song to go to and he told her a number then was like "oh no that's not it" and said to try this other track... nope not it and eventually he scanned through the whole album and couldn't tell one song from the next and couldn't find the song he was looking for.. the hit single.. because same approximate everything about each song.. tempo, intro, chords etc... and of course i lol'd. then left.

It's almost like a cheesy song people would sing along to when drunk, but nobody would know it well enough to sing it

"Whoa! Check it out! RO-BIGH-DUHS!"

sigh.. "That's Ribena.."

Nearly 12 minutes of noodling standing still and getting nowhere extremely slowly.  Average.

i would argue that because its purpose is completely different to just listening to it, its a little different to the rest of the thread. as a standalone track, its a solid 2. as a background 3rd tool track for integrating 2 above it, its still a 2. its actually one of the worst villalobos tools ive heard.

I dunno I feel like the lyrics are a little more interesting than those of 'Life' which, in and of itself, feels like a parody of what would be considered 'average' lyrics. Hmm, the more I listen to these Des'ree trax the more meta they seem, something is goin on here... Des'ree intended for us to be having these conversations about her work. Who's really pulling the strings?

It's that cheesy song people would sing along to when drunk if they didn't opt to sing along with Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer instead.

3. Mind blown, 'what i got' is so incredibly average. It's like it toggles in a state between a 0 and a 5, but when you observe it, it's always a 5.

Haha, well put.

"Summertime" as well - they are the perfect example of a band I'll leave on the radio out of laziness. It's better than silence but I know I'll likely find something better if I browse the frequencies.

The whole downtempo/chillout genre would fit this bill. Also most of the psybient and psydub that is out there. Just take any fucking mix there is in youtube. Sometimes it's so average that it makes me furious.
