Can someone tell me what  a stem is? thanks. Context: music? someone releaseing a stem of a song or something? I don't get it. thanks again.

I strongly disagree with that article, a stem is a kind of tuning stone that works by rubbing it in oil and setting it on fire.

Do you know that fidget spinners were indeed made by a parent for their autistic son to calm him down, but the idea wasn't patented and therefore got made by everycunt... (Story told by my flatmate so not actually researched this, but she's usually on point)

Yeah I saw that story too. I don’t buy it though.

to elaborate on this you see "stems" often in the context of music files provided for remixing - a vocal stem, bass stem, percussion stem, lead instrument, etc

747 has it right. Not sure why everybody else is being so unhelpful. A stem is part of a plant, that's its sole definition. read the rules

I feel we're still inadequate in our response. Although posted in the Music Discussion area, we simply cannot assume the placement of this thread wasn't an honest mistake.
