fingers crossed for SONAR MÉXICO.

OH snap I didnt consider that.  Twas confirmed that the first sonar mx will be 2019

They haven't announced when it will be tho > The festival season in mexico city is typically reversed from the normal (summer) because May-September is the rainy season here.  Which leads me to believe sonar might be held around March/April.  If not, it would be in November / around the same as mutek.

First of all, glad another mexican is here =)

Now, I really don't want it to be Ceremonia since most of the people there aren't at the same frequency as people that tend to go to Mutek or Sonar. Since it seems Sonar will have their very first edition here, they should come POWERFUL as fuck with someone like Aphex Twin. I lost fate in Mutek, so Sonar should be the one getting him. Also, going to Ceremonia would be costly as fuck.

Based on a comment from Reddit, it is quite confirmed by him to play on NY in april too, so he may be doing the Coachella thing and NY... Then go back home and wait to Sonar México =) PLISSS.

It is kind of like when Corona Capital had Squarepusher... I mean, wtf?

I love the clips of Squarepusher playing 2001

Curious how his DJ set will compared to the 2008 one, which started off with drone from Emeralds being interrupted by an instrumental Public Enemy track.

I suspect it'll be similar to what we've been getting in his sets since DFN. All of which have been fantastic. I'm mostly concerned that he might get a short 50-60 min set @ Coachella as opposed to a 1:30-2:00 hr set.

He mentioned in that little fan vid snippet that it was cut short in 2008 - he was expecting to play longer than 1 hour and had to tweak his DJ set as a result

yeah sonar mx just makes sense- for the first time festival to make a big impression, and since he's played sonar barcelona before.  and that booking would be huge, afaik aphex has never played in latin america?

Im curious about your impression of mutek.  This last year was my first time but imo it was incredible.  Did you go to either of them at fábrica?  Its an incredible space

it would be hugely dissappointing if it were ceremonia, nrml, or esp corona capital.. the trying-to-be-coachellas.

yeah, for Sónar would be historic. For all the electronic festivals in here...

With Mutek, I mean it with Aphex specifically. People have begged them to book him, but for reasons they still haven't. I did too went last year, mainly for G A S (which was absolutely great) and went on 2014 I think to see Tim Hecker. Mutek is and will be always great, but they missing the monumental opportunity to bring Aphex Twin would be such a complete shame.

And yeah. I don't mean at all that AT is 'superior music therefore I'm superior', but it is indeed a figure in the experimental/electronic scene, and Ceremonia, NRML and similars are more 'trendy music of the moment', which is okai, of course, but not my cup of tea, so it would be painful to pay $2000MXN (my aprox. if it is indeed Ceremonia [please don't be]) just to see him, since I'm not really into any other (maybe Hopkins), but it would be really hard for me to stay at the place there at CDMX. Sónar I bet would be more centric, kind of Mutek venues.

for me mutek has been striking a perfect balance of experimental and club shows.  Did you go to nocturnes?  Fabrica is way out of the city center in a massive ex-factory warehouse.  Really amazing venue and imo they pulled it off great.  amnesia scanner, Lanark artefax, dettman, apparat were all incredible this year.  I couldn´t make it to anahuacali for GAS, pinche trabajo.

imo mutek has been doing no wrong, but it would be next level if either mutek or sonar booked aphex.

Sonar typically leans more towards club territory (compared to mutek which has experimental and AV focus), right?

Damn, same, because of work I couldn't stay for all events, but yeah, Mutek is fantastic at CDMX (the city itself is).

I don't know, but I still think Sónar should get it... But honestly Aphex Twin has become really popular, and Ceremonia is all about popular artists... So fuck, I'm already thinking how I'll go there...

I was hoping he was booked for Sonar.. Still awesome news, and im excited i'll finally get to see aphex!!

The vibe of past ceremonias has been basically a coachella-alike festival> it takes place in a big festival grounds in Toluca, Estado de Mexico (a more industrial city 1-2hrs drive west of mexico city).  That lineup doesnt look half bad tho.  An option for americans who want to avoid coachella (for the price, or couldnt get tickets or whatever)

Yes dude! Yeah, shame it was at Ceremonia, BUT... Aphex Twin Mexico!

I'm from Querétaro, so I just bought my ticket from Ceremonia and will find someway to go there (maybe somekind of professional transportation). I guess you're gonna go. (Español). Igual y nos andamos viendo por allí! Nos ponemos en contacto =)

Just for the foreigners, it is not exactly at CDMX, it is quite far from it:

If you're gonna plan a trip to here. Nearest airport is Aeropuerto Internacional de Toluca.

Yes buuuut; i still highly recommend going through mexico city (airport and to stay).  Besides most US airlines currently only go to AICM, theres also just way more to see/do in cdmx.  I've had people who are from Toluca tell me there isnt anything to do in their city.. There will likely be a shuttle from cdmx, as many other festivals do that.

I also have a giant google-map of things to see, do, eat in cdmx that I usually fwd to visitors, if anyone is interested.

¡watmm méxico! nos vemos ahi
