Swan Vesta :nyan: My fave ziq tune like evah.

Phi*1700[u/v] makes me always feel like I was sipping a cuba libre in a lounge of Caribbean cruise boat. OK song, just a bit too long maybe.

Listened this morning walking to work. I've actually never listened to this album. Known Swan Vesta for a long time via The Braindance Coincidence but I didn't get into Planet Mu until the first Snares albums on there and tbh never been that into Mike's albums (really dug Bilious Paths though).

This was a nice slice of oldskool (borderline quaint?) idm. The track that was playing that made me pull out my phone out and check the title was 'Vibes'. proper oddball lil track, was amusing.

Unfortunately I didn't make it through the whole of disc one because my phone did something weird and skipped to a Merzbow album, and that helped my hangover way more than Mr Paradinas :cat:

I bought the 2cd reissue but nevee really listened to anything after the point where the orig double LP version ends. Just felt wrong. Vaguely remember methyl albion (?) being nice. The orig vinyl release is an all time top 10 electrical music record imo though.

Weirdly never really got into bluff limbo anywhere near as much

I don't visit the early  :braindance: a whole lot myself either, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this one, though it could just be that it's similarity to stuff I have heard from that era is triggering some kind of semi-nostalgic association. Enjoyed Swan Vista and Beatnik #2 in particular, the latter being pretty simple yet different from the rest. Will definitely spin it again sometime when I'm the mood for this sort of thing.

Looking forward to the next installment.

Love the maximal-beat you over the head with distorted beats matched with the catchy melodies of Mike’s early period. I’ve made a huge playlist of Tango/Bluff/Somerset/SoundCloud jams that is one of my most played in my collection. Never get tired of this style.

Hector's House on your list?  :emb:

Used to rinse this album in the 90s but probably my first listen in about 10 years.

Surprised how dated it sounds tbh.

Iesope is the stand out for me this time round. Had kinda forgotten about that one.

Still love Mike's melodies from this era but the beats and arrangements all feel a bit ridged.

Maybe it's because I'm not off my head any more like I was for most of the late 90s.

Still listen to and love Lunatic Harness regularly.

Anyways, great idea for a thread.

I bought most Planet Mu stuff up to the footwork era.

Hope Jega - Geometry gets a turn.

I recently checked out Bluff and Tango this year. Those albums were not on the radar for me for some reason, I was particularly into parts of Lunatic Harness when that came out. There are a few tracks I dug, but I'm just not into those albums. There's something in most of the melodies that don't click for some reason, I can't put my finger on it. I keep wanting to change them because of the repetition or the key, dunno. But there are always a few gems.

Gasman's Remedial was on heavy rotation for me when it came out.

I'll be doing it chronologically using this handy dandy list of releases: https://planet.mu/releases/

come to think of it I should've just started with mealtime (ziq000) but oh well. But if you wanna discuss it go ahead, tis an open ended thread, I'm gonna listen to that one too

though technically those EPs and LPs were Planet Mu, only through a labyrinth of parent labels and thus thats why theyre not on the mu page... hmmm....

Was surprised to find myself actually digging more Bluff Limbo than Tango. For some reason I've always thought Tango being the alpha dog while Limbo felt like....extras???? Anyway, those are wicked tracks which MXL2 posted. Hector's House is a stellar tune. Also have a sweet spot for Metal Thing #3. Didn't know that the two were supposed to complete each other although have always felt like they were brothers.

Adore my expertise, my knowledge for µ back-catalogue ends here. :cat:

I remember liking Tango n Bluff quite a lot when I first got them, probably about 4-5 years after they came out. Listened to them a lot, but not so much any more, rarely go back to them and find them quite dated now (bar a few tracks). Will give them a proper listen later.

I'm digging the beat oriented tracks, some of them anwyay (Gob Bots, Hector's House, Organic Tomato Yoghurt) but the beatless, more mellow tunes just do nothing for me. Maybe Tango n Vectiff consumed all the patience I have for that type of music, cause some tracks i just couldnt wait for them to end (sick porter 2, the wheel)

The Auteurs vs Ziq was nice, I don't see myself coming back to it but it was pleasant enough. A somewhat cohesive release is welcome after these 2 mixed bags

really though can't wait til we get to proper planet mu era, with mealtime, jega n shit. Or at least for Jungle to come - kinda odd to realize it wasn't even a thing when these albums first came out

The Auteurs vs Ziq I probably like more than the other two, it's something different at least. Couple of the tracks are really good IIRC, Daughter of a Child and one of the others I can't remember. Maybe the whole thing is a bit samey.

i always have a soft spot for beatless stuff.. especially mike p and boc.. dunno why that is, maybe because I rammed my brain with too much trance and techno when I was 11-13

yeah I don't hate beatless on principle. It can also make good breathers, like on united acid emirates. I just don't need 6 minutes of The Wheel

re: today, turns out mike p released a ton of shit in 95, and I'm gonna ignore my arbitrary self-imposed rules

Jake Slazenger Makes a Racket is a bona fide classic

especially stupid wanker

Edited by perunamuussi

All of the Slazenger releases are great, IMO. But especially Makes a Racket.

I wouldn't mind seeing Mr P revisit that alias actually, legit new Slazenger would be interesting. Pewter Dragon/On the Street was nice.
