Cows On Hourglass Pond was recorded between January - March 2018 by Dave Portner at Laughing Gas in Asheville, NC on a Tascam 48 half-inch reel-to-reel tape machine. It follows the 2017 release of Avey Tare's Eucalyptus, and 2018’s audiovisual album Tangerine Reef, a collaboration between Animal Collective and avant-garde coral macro-videographers Coral Morphologic.

that single is very good. never heard Eucalyptus, is it any good?

eucalyptus is sort of electroacustic psychodelia, nothing like this single. Not my cup o tea but maybe you'll like it, it's very chill. Down There I don't remember much anymore since I havent listened in ages, I remember it sounding just like late 00s Animal Collective, but worse

I didn't remember Down There at all so listening now, can see why it didn't make much of an impression. It's okay I guess.

I rate Down There highly, reminds me of strawberry jam (similar vocal lines) but with a squiggly sound pallete.  Some filler, but Laughing Hieroglyphic, 3 Umbrellas, and Lucky 1 are fantastic tracks.

Havent listened to Eucalyptus, but I want to check it out now after your impression span

the last few tracks picked up a bit, listening to Slasher Flicks now, had forgotten about that too. like this a lot more.

animal collective are definitely influenced by phychedelic rock and surf rock, among many more influences.  In case you dont know hes one of the founding members of that band.  If you like this track you may like a good chunk of that band's discography and panda bear's solo stuff, especially everything 2004-2010

Cheers, some obvious starting point albums are Merriweather Post Pavilion, Feels, and Fall Be Kind and Water Curses eps.  Or if you dug the laid back vibe of this track, Panda Bear solo is maybe a closer analog

An audio collage / track and story about the album.  Posting here because the typeface on his website is hard for me to read.

I've never bothered with any of Avey Tare's solo work, but these samples sound good. Now that Panda Bear has gone all autotune I guess I gotta shift over to Avey.

The autotune didn't bother me too much but all of the songs felt way too similar and not very interesting to me. You should definitely check this out though, it's more poppy than Avey Tare's other solo stuff but I think it might be his best overall (not counting Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished)

It might still be their best in my opinion. It’s a really great psych rock album, and was completely written by Avey at age 19 except for the drumming which Panda Bear did based on Avey’s beatboxing
