Radiohead OK Computer sessions leak - 18 hrs

I’d like to hear some Kid A/Amnesiac sessions. Would probably have a lot of experimental/electronic stuff they didn’t want to release

So is this stuff worth checking out for a casual Radiohead fan such as myself?

(I like but don't love OK Computer)

I hope the OKNOTOK treatment follows next year for the Kid A/Amnesiac stuff. I’ll be fine with a solid repress of both but I’m sure there will be more

Maybe this is just the first part of their dump. Their dump is just crowning, so to speak.

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

Basically what Jules said.

As far as I'm concerned, it's too much. But I bought it anyways. There's a couple of gems in there which haven't seen original release ( or it was on the oknotok cassette). I basically paid the band for the event someone does the curating and compiles a best of from this material. So I will enjoy that, without feeling like a big old pirate. And I appreciate the band for doing this. If there's more stuff on other minidiscs, buying it might actually help convince them doing more soundcloud dump kind of things. If you know what I mean.

i would say there's interesting stuff in the mix. i've been tackling compiling it down, but a lot of it does sit more in the 'interesting' side of things as opposed to 'good'. it's interesting to hear early versions of OK Computer tracks, and hearing them work through different arrangements and styles. it's interesting to hear completely unreleased tracks that got scrapped, or either only existed as a loose band jam with thom singing freeform nonsense on top. but if you don't love OK Computer, then how 'interesting' it is is probably entirely subjective here.

there's a version of 'nude' that as soon as it goes into the first chorus, immediately jumps forward to the (i think right in the middle of the) next verse. so i did what any sane person would do, opened ableton and hacked it back together into something more seamless https://wetransfer.com/downloads/c6554b2d9a9eaaeb802e26b690c1bb0420190612035305/79d9a24008eff848ca5d7871b083662420190612035305/b1c154

I wonder if it’s actually a SoundCloud type thing wrapped in a nice story

i just hope they get hacked again when they do the Kid A box sets because the material here is definitely more interesting than the officially released OKNOTOK material

(((( ONLY JOKING of course, ha ha .. ? Hackers, Don't Hack Bands ? ))))

I'm agnostic about it. It wouldn't matter either way. There's more minidiscs and whether or not there is intent behind this leak, odds increase that more will come if people like it, I'd argue.

The group who originally transcribed all the timestamps keeps updating the google doc with info regarding the story behind the leaks.  They say that there was no official ransom to the band, but the leaker was asking $500 a track and $50 for each live version, which when added up is where the $150k came from.

Biggish (but by no means uuuge) fan here and OK is my favorite of theirs by miles but I'm probably going to pass on all of this. (I do want to hear this purported 12 min version of Paranoid Android, but can wait).

The world of music available to us has become effectively infinite now, a development that's happened within our lifetime and, somewhat ironically, really began accelerating right around the time of OK Computer's release.  And yet our lifetime (and its subset, call it listening time) remains finite. Can't catch 'em all like pokemons anymore, some rabbit holes ought to be passed by.  Slow down idiot!

Thought experiment - say they put up KidA/Amnesiac sessions on bandcamp tomorrow, except this time it's 36 hrs.  Would you buy?  What if instead it was 72 hrs but free (as in real estate)?  Would you fill up your HD with those delicious flacs?  Would you consider paying someone to curate the juicy bits for your enjoyment?

I meant that they were saying that the leaker was just trying to sell them to anyone who would buy them, not asking for a ransom from the band in return for not leaking them.  :emotawesomepm9:

Im curious where the leak first showed up on the net since it seems like it was the band themselves who leaked it.

Yes I would buy the 72 hour Kid A Sessions.  but No i would not pay someone to curate them. This is more just curiosity for me - im a big radiohead fan but not huge (never seen them live and dont think i will but i own all their albums except moon shaped). this shit is awesome to me. Huge awesome windows into the process with some gems scattered throughout. It's WAAAAY too much for a casual - but so was the soundcloud afx dump, no?

Funnily enough I was watching Stewart Lee's Content Provider last night (recommended) and there's a part in that where he mentions all the time he used to spend in the 80s and 90s traipsing around record shops with a list he'd sunk a shitload of time and research into, looking for rare treasures. And the joy of finding one of them, and the joy of getting it home and playing it.

For those that don't know Stewart Lee is a massive avant gard/experimental music fan. On that video he's wearing a Les Rallizes Denudes shirt.

So what he's leading up to is saying around 1997 (OK Computer's release year) he discovered the internet. Downloaded everything on his list in a single afternoon, played them all and felt empty.
