Best Music of the Decade: 2010-2019

Recently tried to do a top 10 of the decade on another forum. Then I just did the Pitchfork poll and entered slightly different results. But here are some top ones for me:

hah thanks, and no worries because I like your unapologetic opinions on here. there's this unique informed shit-talking, hot takes, and perhaps most essentially - relentlessness braindance snobbery maintained by a number of members that makes WATMM what it is. that list makes me feel like a NPR listening dad poptimist normie here and yet on r/indieheads and elsewhere it's likely "eclectic"

I digested a lot more music via tapes, singles, streaming and personal playlists, EPs, etc. - I didn't come up with many albums partly I couldn't think of many more I played on repeat. I couldn't for example settle on a 0PN or Angel Olsen album - 3 or 4 excellent tracks from each album for me. the vast majority of vaporwave, hypnagogic pop, lo-fi house, footwork, witch house, chillwave, etc. was rarely released in cohesive, standalone albums that stood out. stuff like sunset corp on YT, the BoC Societas tape,  grainy footwork battle videos, and the smashtv memorex mix were among my favorite "releases" of the year and they aren't albums. that whole broad scene of this post-social media "fuck it why not?" creativity by DIY producers is why elite gymnastics, macintosh plus, and grimes ended up on there. they were the pinnacle of those artists' creative spurts that I don't think could ever by matched or replicated. oh well, we all know in the music journalism circles Kanye will be deemed the apt flag-bearer of the 2010 meta AF zeitgeist (and I'm a-ok with that) but shit like Random Access Memories will get another completely unwarranted circlejerk in all of the lists too. most importantly this decade saw the return of RDJ and my bucketlist check off of seeing him live, a BoC promo campaign album I got to actively follow and enjoy firsthand, the IDM stalwarts cranking out a plethora of solid releases

On the one hand it feels like "wasn't it just 2009?" but on the other hand when seeing something like Cosmogramma or the NHKyx album on the list and remembering hearing them for the first time it feels like it was ages ago, like my life has changed completely several times since then. fuk

I'm still pretty sure I've listened to the whole Shobaleader album only once..

playbynumbers and I did this over email last year. Nothing from 2019 would make the cut besides the Autechre WXAXRXP stuff and maybe Kelela's mix.
