I worked a short stint as the night manager at a hotel. I slept on the job. Not dozing off at the front desk, but actually setting up one of the extra beds round the back office, right behind the front desk, and turning in for the better part of the night. The place was newly opened and most nights all check ins arrived conveniently at the start of the shift. Though one time a random walk in did arrive during my nap time.

3 months later nothing had changed, same low level of occupancy. I started sleeping in vacant rooms, there were plenty to choose from. With the work phone by my side, which never rang except for a check in call from a sister hotel, so I'd make sure to at least be awake for that.

I also sometimes worked the afternoon/evening shift, and soon discovered it wasn't too different from my slacky night routine. Ended up spending the majority of one evening chilling in a vacant suite with the housekeeping manager and one of the housekeepers, drinking lattes and watching Eurovision Song Contest.

Today I arrived to work filthy, hungover and not from home (got bootycalled the night before)

Walked around for an hour supervising 7 paedophiles sweeping up the prison grounds, with the old battleaxe in charge of said paedo crew. I was holding a mug of tea and an umbrella.

Went down to the property dungeon and went online for a few hours. Then went out to the visitors centre so I could get a colleague to help me log some overtime.

Went back and supervised the paedo sweeping crew for another 30mins. We quit because it was raining.

Bit more internet and a packet of crisps.

Left work at 15:30

Please start a blog spiral.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

i'd like to know what cwmbrancity actually does for work, cause i can't make any sense of their posts. archaeology? some sort of mental health work? customer service? makes me doubt myself and feel like i need to work on my reading comprehension

This struck me as a particularly British thing to say. Carry on.

^ that's because it is.

currently lowkey rationalizing my saying no to every request for me to come in to work with the idea that working = playing into the hands of the man

At my job we have a points system where your supervisor or even regular fellow employee can award you "points" through our work portal thing that you can convert into gift certificates. So now I have a pretty ridiculous amount of Amazon money $$$ aka Bezos Bux that I use to buy cool shit and it just keeps replenishing because they probably don't realize how generous it is and we abuse the shit out of it.
