Andy Stott - It Should Be Us

Whenever I see one of my older posts i cringe, bc what the hell was I on about.. Stott has evolved into one of my favorite artists probably, and if I could have a hot take I think Passed me by and We stay together are his most boring tracks.

Luxury problems, beautiful, subdued and hard hitting at the same time

Faith in Strangers, a little harsher, more focussed on vocals but also still hauntingly beautiful imo

Too many voices, love the melodies on most tracks from this one, new romantic is absolutely gorgeous. It has a better mix of beauty and harshness (better than FiS)

This record is also such a fucking banger. It's just stomping track after stomping track, 0L9 is crazy

Never the right time, less into this but I haven't tried as hard compared to his other works

no one ever talks about merciless and his other shit before passed me by hit the market. I like them but they dont really stand out or anyting.

Anyway, love andy

curious what sorta thing he's doing next....some interview or something around the time of this last one was like 'okay this is the end of this sound from me, going to work on other vibes next' so it should be interesting at least?

All that talk about his albums and you forgot the only release I really like: His debut album Merciless

I don't like his tracks with vocals and stuff, It is a no go for me. Anyway he have very dope album covers!

Yeah me too, I would be fine with him continuing to make albums that sound like this (because I don't care for unnecessary rtist innovation) but I would be very interested to see him do something entirely different. Drop the vowels was a nice change of pace but it didn't sound all that different from his other shit

I used to be like you Cern, hating things with vocals. I have cooled on it now that i'm """older""" and I can appreciate it more. Why don't you like vocals?

I agree he has some of the best and most consistent albums covers out there.

Merciless is very nice house type music although I never return to it, it doesn't stand out as much as his later works so I prefer to listen to those albums.

u get me! Well not quite hate but it not just get me anywhere. It is so abstract u know.. Like all the electronic music and weird instruments blending in so perfectly then just suddenly a human voice starts to go off and im like "hey who invited u in this?"
I'll start listen to an artist and he got this very 1 minute amazing intro on the tune that get u into the best mood! Then he was start reading a poem in German for the rest of the whole banger track. I respect him wanna be artistic, creative and deep etc but my god It didn't turned me on.

Alltho the one group that can still master this balance perfectly and doing so amazing vocals with the music is Seefeel I love them so much! 💜

I get you, especially the shoutout to Seefeel!

I used to think that way too, especially with female vocals for some reason. But these days I can appreciate the human voice, as sometimes it'll functoin almost like a synthesizer or an extra melody for the song. I feel like Andy uses Alsions vocals very well, they are apparent but they don't overpower or rule the track. I'd say listen to Luxury Problems again and try to see the voice as an instrument. I get the tunr off from faith in Strangers bc the vocals are more prominently feauterd there, that one took some time for me to love too.

Hard to say where he will go next 'Never The Right Time' was taking his signature sound and moving it even futher away from the dancefloor, lots of softer moments, ambience. There were times when it was almost pop/soul. If he carries on with this trajectory then the next record will sound like Cocteau Twins.

The 7" single that came out last year was a lot heavier/deeper dubby sounding but who knows whether these are new trax or archive material.

IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME NOT HIM! IT'S NOT FAIR - iFunny
