Autechre - SIGN 16.10.20

This is such a fall album. It works best as a full continuous listen while walking somewhere on a classic "Fall day" or specifically from the evening/sunset and into the dark. In the years since its release I can only get into it this time of year, but then it really fits well.

Agreed. I'm happy to listen to it year round, but I think of it as very autumnal.

This album turns FOUR on Wednesday, hard to believe it was released that long ago. Anyways I just took a fall stroll (it officially turned from 'warm' fall weather to 'cold' fall weather today) while listening to the album on airpods pro at a decently loud volume. Very immersed in it and my settings. Damn I love this album!

Same for me, cold/rainy fall is prime Ae weather I reckon

Both of the EPs instantly take me back to those weird cabin-fever-is-it-ever-gonna-end-but-now-sorta-getting-used-to-it-like-the-tail-end-of-a-fever-dream Covid days

Pretty sure I put this here back when I did it but couldn't find it in this 166 page(!) tome

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

listened to SIGN after work today. good stuff. the sequencing still strikes me as the biggest miss of this (+ PLUS as well...), tracks are strong/really good, couple of classics (M4 Lema & r cazt imo)

Going by Stan Autocue's best wishes (17:42):

(could've sworn they were WAP catalogue numbers rather than WARP # )

wow, crazy to see Sean be so wrong about his & Rob’s own music  :emotawesomepm9:

PLUS most feels like an EP to be fair, SIGN is def more an album vibe to me tho

Unread replies

SIGN is more cohesive and varied imo. It's been a real grower over these past 4 years. Definetely a nice breather after all the 400+ hours of material they had been putting out over the previous years. I dont return to PLUS nearly as much, it doesnt sound as memorable to me.

he's saying PLUS should've been an EP though. SIGN is still definitively an LP

They're both maxi-singles. SIGN is m4 Lema with 10 b-sides, PLUS is all remixes of marhide.

Whatya mean miss?

I'm not listening to Sign or Plus too often. Not convinced. Last time I was: NTS Sessions. Quite some while ago. The dusk, maybe night, of a great era, fanbois. Der Untergang.

Don't be overdramatic lol, Sign and Plus we're still incredible shows of quality. I don't understand the need for some AE fans to get 10 hour projects everytime. We've had so much live material over the years, we got elseq, we got NTS. I think the fact that they can still produce a quality hour long project is more of a testament to their skill than putting out gigabytes of long form stuff every other month

You're maybe not refering to me, but I am absolutely not about quantity. Most of the music on Sign/Plus just doesn't attract me. Recent Ae_Live even less, I'm saying the evil word there: "noodling".

the track sequencing is weird, i think it makes the album a bit disjointed & uneven.

Weird? You’ve said even less this time 😆

Just the thread pump needed! Now giving it a spin with a cold beer (literally a beer called Cold Beer) think I may have mentioned it before r cazt is a fave for me and both Sign and Plus are ace I enjoy playing them one after the other. Night sorted 🍻

they prolly coulda mixed and matched the tracklists of both into a coherent double cd thing. but im pretty happy with them as separate projects as it is. big ol spacious sounds

I was thinking about it also like if they could have done it in another way.
Little bit off when it goes like "2 NEW Albums" 1 is the main and the other album is just tracks that didn't made it to the main album and too big for being a EP.
