IMO, Discovery was the album where form & function melded seamlessly, after that they kept trying to reinvent the robots.

They sure helped a lot of us get into electronic music, and have a fair bit of good tunes. For that, I'm grateful, but to be honest, I wish more of their fans would listen to the artists listed in the song "Teachers" and get a deeper appreciation of the wonders that lie in the worlds of house and techno music. Daft Punk weren't bad per se, but there's something that rubs me the wrong way about them, they feel partially responsible for helping bring dance music to the masses both for better and worse. I'm happy for people making whatever style of music to be able to make a living at it but I don't think techno and house music DJs ever needed to become among the biggest name pop stars. Or if any deserved such heights of recognition, it might not have been these two.

Watched the "remastered" Interstella 5555 in the cinema yesterday - It was a clear improvement on the shit quality of the original version and it was amazing to hear Discovery on a cinema sound system but the AI upscaling was an affront to art itself remaster it properly plz

New tour upcoming?

If the group never broke up or retired, you can't market it as a reunion

Oh man, I really had to bit my tongue when I watched it, I had no idea about the AI upscaling job and noticed it immediately. But my wife and kids were enjoying it and I got over it pretty quickly. Alamo Drafthouse had a good sound setup and I had a great time seeing it on a big screen instead of on a CRT monitor in my dorm room via a 700mb .avi file in 2005.

There's a hd non-upscalled digital copy floating around on google drive FYI. There's a few reddit posts that link it if you search for it.

Something my 9 year old kid said was pretty interesting. He asked why they wear masks and I initially said "well they look cool" but as I kept thinking about it I realized unlike Deadmau5 or the Marshmello DJ they have always been private and reserve. It turned into a gimmick, arguably, but that wasn't the intention. They literally were masks. They aren't anywhere close to BoC in sound or scope but there's a adjacent sincerity to their output and separation from their personal life and music. I continued and said to him "You know, I don think they wanted to be famous but instead just really wanted to share their music and make that famous."

partial agreement. it's certainly not better than discovery but it's not bad. it just has too much repetitive filler. which is the kiss of death when you already make very repetitive music

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.
