Also, bit of a side note (as it's not finished or definite), but I'm working on making a site/blog where I go into detail of my favorite artists and releases I've found throughout my IDM journey. Exm is going to be heavily featured, of course, as he's currently tied for first place in my favorite artists section of the site. I'm hoping to write about my favorite albums and songs of his, like llmnt and Modulus, Meltt... the list goes on.

Anyway, if I have anything concrete written and published, I'll post here. I did write a review for exm's Comp on this site:

exm - Comp (album review ) | Sputnikmusic

As well as a little blurb on exm and mitoma's collaboration release e|m:

Exm | Mitoma - e|m (album review ) | Sputnikmusic

I'm hoping to have more written as time allows. This is all just hobby as time allows, so no specific timeframe.

I was expecting an accordion Christmas album.

Something different, good.

Subfiles, tough one. 😁 Time will tell.

Given exm's versatility, I'm sure an accordion Xmas album would sound great from him

First few listens to subfiles have been rewarding. I like that you included a one-song of everything. It all flows great together and is very hypnotic. Time flies while I listen.

No. That (archive 1998-2010) will be released (digital only) later this year. I am thinking may or june 2025.

Ah, it's gonna be a good weekend // a lot to digest. Intro track first half of Solar reminded me of Detroit People Mover (which is stellar) a bit. oblique and block Filament is what I just needed. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES. At the evening of WATMM, those are wonderful releases.

Solar is likely your most dense album yet, on my initial reaction. Wow. I'm gonna spin it throughout the week and then try to reflect on how I feel about it.

You're the only artist that can make abstraction sound this beautiful, and i'm so impressed. No surprise.

I must criticize what is (probably) intentionally glitch in Solar - Violt. Say, 5:00 onwards. It made me checking all the route from files to audioplayer and DAC, because I was under the impression there is clipping somewhere in the process or may already have been in mixing. Arggggh. Scene related:

Yeah. No clipping. Used an aggressive compressor though. Maybe that is something you're not fond of. To me it is fitting in the context 😉

That was OK for me - in the screenshot I am referring to smth. else: the harsh gap in Hilec at 3:48

as intended and without clipping. Just checked to be extra sure on the original 24bit wav and CD image (sddp); no clipping and no inter sample clipping. I never use clippers in the mixing and mastering stage. Neither during arranging.

Ah then I'm happy it's an intended gap. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying it's clipping (the final files are damn fine, I test the Gain staging with fb2k and Truepeak scanner), it was just that this choice of noise made me sweating and search for errors in my audio chain 🙂 🥂

While we are talking tech I would like to ask: why 44.1/24 and not 48/24? In my world, 44.1 is just CD world, 48k is much more distributed/likely in all kinds of (future) hardware, and as a result no resampling on the fly necessary.

In the classical world, say FLACs on Qubuz, if 24 bits per sample are distributed, 44.1 is super rare. It's all 48/96/192 then.

2 main reasons;

a) file size (stems of tens of mixer channels of 20+ minutes long result in projects of large sizes)

b) i had serious issues with some plugins i use(d) a lot @48kHz or higher. So i just decided to stick with 44.1kHz at 24bit for wav. I actually noticed some small differences between 16 and 24 bit, especially in quieter parts, and i liked 24 bit more, so stuck with that

k thx, bit depth would make a huge part of file sizes I'd say, ~500 vs. 900 MB e.g. in the Solar flacs. Just sayin', please don't go for 16 🙂
Keeping file sizes is the reason why I usually bring down downloaded classical flacs to 48, rarely 96, and depending on importance, ~20 bits + dithering. With all the 192/24 out there, despite cheap storage, it still gets out of hand otherwise. And we're in (applies to me) inaudible realms anyway.
