Are you losers ready to cry?

Decent cover, good song. I am ready for a good Cure album again.

I mean the song is immediately the best thing they've done since Wish, which is already a positive. Will probably wait until it's out before making a decision to purchase, but it's nice to be optimistic.

never been a Cure fan specifically (they’ve got some good tunes, ofc) but gave this song a listen today & thoroughly enjoyed it.

Same. Never a mad fan but do really like some of their tunes. A lot of their stuff, even the classic albums have plenty of stuff that doesn't interest me. They also have great b-sides. 

What a nice surprise. 

Liking Alone a lot. Maybe this album will be the perfect soundtrack to my impending SAD as winter approaches. 
 

Cure was my favorite band throughout the 90s, but haven't Loved an album since Wish (even though I though half of Wild Mood Swings was great).  Definitely looking forward to this one as they've been killing it live lately.  That said, this single just sounds Nice to me, rather than leaves me salivating.

Good to see Exploding Boy and A Few Hours After This....

I had the double cassette version of Staring At The Sea which had the B-sides (the CD and vinyl versions didn't) and I was blown away when I heard those two tracks. Amazing stuff to chuck on a B-side.

yeah. that join the dots b-sides compilation is almost as good as their greatest hits. talk about "killing your darlings..."

The b-sides for Disintegration and Wish were some of my fav Cure tracks.

I've been wanting to see them live for a while now hopefully this will be the opportunity! Very excited for this album

I don't want to go too hard in the rambling but I noticed a really weird effect lately. I recently put all Radiohead into shuffle on my music player because I hadn't listened to any of it in so long. Well, as the hours went by, I noticed my mood absolutely tanking . This will happen with The Cure and Nine Inch Nails as well. It's awesome music and so important to me but going deep in it exposes all those old emotional "holes in the drywall" that I had to work so hard to patch over.

I always thought that 'this is fine--if I feel like shit, it's OK to listen to music that magnifies it' but that was actually a fatal move in a way. It's like sobriety. One has to abandon pathways that aren't helping to get a new result. I felt vindicated when Trent said that he can't revisit a lot of the old stuff because it's too close to the bone for how badly things were going at that time.  

Anyway, I'll mark the release date as "fat pussy day" on my phone calendar and indulge for old time's sake hahaha

Cure is sort of in the same category as REM for me, where I feel like I should like it more because it's so highly regarded by people who love music, but it almost never hits for me.  I appreciate that they have their own identifiable sound.  Burn (from the Crow soundtrack) and Friday I'm in Love are the only two songs of theirs that I enjoy on a deeper level.  The rest has yet to connect.  Maybe the new album will be the one that makes me a fan.

When I was a teenager my best mate was really into the Cure so we'd sit and listen to it for ages. Get the lyrics from the CD liner and analyse them. In the pre-internet days when you listened to a band with deep lyrics, it felt like they might be trying to pass on secret knowledge about how to live. And in a sense they are I suppose, they're giving their perspective and philosophy. But pre-internet that was so much more powerful because you had much less ability to go and find things for yourself. So Robert Smith would sing about Sartre and Camus and then that would inspire us to go and find the books from a library. It felt like we were being given really important clues.

It must be very different for teenagers now, trying to make sense of the world. Their world is awash with an infinity of information and perspectives. I suppose instead of following the lyrics of a band they are more likely to follow an influencer on social media. They're also much more likely to find counterargument or opposing views (or at least be aware they exist) and so it must be confusing as hell. No wonder so many people fall into conspiracy theories, the real world is complex and messy and conspiracy theories give you a nice tidy perspective all tied up and packaged.

I forgot about Harold and Joe,  but I now remember loving it. Gonna go and listen to it now.

hahaha it just means that I'll permit weepy, mopey "celebrations" to the new Cure album that day. A good roast I thought of immediately after typing was "isn't that how every day is marked on your calendar?" but breaking balls is out of fashion these days
