There are 2 main edits, which are the Q2 edit and the Blue Rose Cut. They are different.

Q2 reinserts every single scene from the Missing Pieces into FWWM. It's technically the most complete experience, but it is very long, and some of the scenes quite honestly were better off being cut; particularly the scene with Pete arguing about 2x4s, and much of the sheriff's station content, both of which are cool to see the characters returning but are entirely irrelevant to the plot and only really harm the pacing.

The Blue Rose Cut however uses the original shooting script to reinsert nearly all of the cut material in the places it was intended to be before Lynch had to remove it. It has probably about 75% of the Missing Pieces in it and is in my opinion the best way to watch it, as while it's not produced by Lynch, it is arguably closer to how he intended it to be. It does however lose some of the aforementioned irrelevant scenes, so you'll have to skip through the Missing Pieces if you want to see those.

In short, if you want a 100% complete merger of the two films at the cost of length, pacing, and overall tone, whilst keeping all of the cut material, watch Q2. But if you want a still long, but all-round better cut and paced edit containing the most integral scenes, in line with Lynch's original script, but without some of the more fun and whimsical vignettes, watch The Blue Rose Cut

I live for this stuff, great work! I also just re-watched it the other day, such an amazing film

didn't know this one yet. lynch crossing over to comedy.

also tempted to post some interview he had with jay leno in the nineties. Leno and lynch are like water mixing with oil. it doesn't want to work, but it's still enjoyable to watch

Never liked the slow burn of Mulholland Drive until recently. Took me very long to appreciate the works for what they were

I also have a strange relation with this film - first time I saw it I was enthralled, did not want it to end - I also watched it once on a laptop with headphones and it was like seeing the film for the first time again, as I had not noticed (or could not hear) all the low level ambient noise and different sound effects and audio stuff that is finely tuned to the scenes.

I have had trouble making it all the way through recently, though. Maybe because of the structure, like I heard it was supposed to be a mini series and most of it was filmed but then something happened with the financing and he had to cut it down to a long feature length film. Think I just gotta be in the right mood for it, whereas with seasons 1 and 3 of Twin Peaks, which I have been watching recently, I can just dive right in any time and enjoy, mostly on the strength of the characters, soundtrack, and stories.
