~Scraping WATMM Project~

Yeah lots of threads in GenBan that aren't outright garbage. Lots of movies/art/food recipes and suggestions. Let's not trash everything (right away) pls. I made some badass threads

For example pls keep these ones

See I think those (How do you view art? recommend noir style movies) are very different than “what TV series are you watching”.

Those have merit beyond regurgitating the latest media to come across your screen.

I want you to be honest with yourself. When was the last time you went more than say, 3 pages back in the “what TV series are you watching?” thread.  How often do you search out reasoned critique from 2016 on a film that came out that year in the thread “films you’ve recently watched?”

Maybe I browse very differently from the rest of WATMM but those are the threads that least hold my attention. I appreciate that some specific big films probably warrant their own threads and discussion, but I’m not going back in that thread to see kakapo’s review of “Butt Sluts 9”.

I might suggest the “now reading” thread is less ephemeral, as books as a medium in that thread tend to be less about mass media pulp. 

I just really don’t see why the new place can’t start new discussion on topics like that without relying on 15 years of cruft. 

like you, I’m just voicing my opinion, so who knows which way the wind will blow at the new place.

yep yep yep - pin notices, not 'popular' threads. If they're popular they'll naturally get bumped to the top anyway....

this is feeling more and more like a relationship that's over, first days were hard to handle but as time goes on i feel less need to hang onto the past...

I'm keen to help archive stuff as I often flick through the old threads on music and art. I'd appreciate two things to help me go.

1) what's already been achieved (a list that gets updated) 

2) the preferred way to do it (print to pdf is preferable or what?)

I search the forum for film titles or video game titles all the time to read what people were saying about them. so probably not more than two weeks ago.

i want to shoot and direct a 90-minute blockbuster movie about the DANK MEMES thread here on watmm. it's a perfectly pristine and untouched encapsulation of 10+ years of internet subculture mixing, mashing and blasting through our collective consciousness like a high speed train. it's a bulldozer made up of the very trashiest and batshit zaniest images, uprooting our very society with their pure nuggets of absolute truth. it's 300+ pages long and scrolling through them at 3am will raise your IQ and make you fully qualified to govern a mid-sized state.

a while ago someone pointed out that watmm's bitcoin/cryptocurrency threads have been around since 2011, and that we've been here long enough to discuss the entire story arc of cryptocurrency rewriting the rules of monetary exchange and permanently altering the landscape of the world's economy. well, this is how i feel about the DANK MEMES thread. it's worth even more than that, our contributors have lovingly and consistently posted memes from every sporadic corner of the internet and they have been pouring them all into one place....it means so much to me that we've been doing that for 10 years. i'm determined to archive as much of watmm as possible and ESPECIALLY the dank memes

is the possible get hold of the current themes used here by download / scrape / have them send by joyrex? I guess this would make things much easier for the new forum

if that's not possible it would be interesting to  know how they where called before they have been modded. Any info on this @Joyrex

hey@chenGODcan u pull out your bag of tricks and make it possible to download all my attachments in bulk? i have the check boxes but then the only option is to delete them... pretty please?

It actually looks like there's a surprisingly small set of base themes so it's probably quite easy to see which one is which: https://www.ipsfocus.com/themes/4-themes.php

Tomorrow's Harvest is a modified version of Chameleon Dark, which is put out by a third party (don't recall offhand the site name - IPFocus maybe?)

Any of the WATMM skins are just IPB4 modified skins (colors and CSS).

I'd rather not WATMM's color scheme be emulated anywhere - it's a bit dated as it is (IMO)

Couldn't the dank memes thread be archived as a blog/Tumblr as we did with the Bullwallet versions?
