Yeah, works like a charm, especially with metal tapes. My dad used to have an equalizer that looked very similar (at least I thought so when I was 10 yrs old) but he probably threw it away.

  • 1 month later...

you people have so much cool shit to look at in front of you, when sitting in front of the computer. All I have is a grey wall.

I heard the quality of metal tapes is really good. Can you use em on any tape deck?

Nice posters! And what's the leftmost keyboard thing?

Microkorg mate. Posters are from all the nights I've played at over the years!!

Makeshift studio for a sunny / beautiful summer day (last month). Probably one of the funnest days i've ever fiddled with tunes.

You can, but I'm not sure wether it'll improve the quality on a normal tape deck. Mine's got a switch for the tape type, metal tape has other bias and equalization requirements.

This has been a gear porn fantasy for a while. To have all my stuff setup and connectable to really see what I can do with my gear. My wife and kid went out of town for the week, so that's how I colonized the dining table hahah.

I also wanted to see how it is to use the EM-1 exclusively for sequencing. Not bad! I just bought the EM-1 and ER-1 in the states with the intention to sell one or both here in Europe. I think if I sold both I would be able to afford an MPC, which is the real gear porn for me ATM. :) I very nearly had enough patch cables which was astounding. haha.

My room doesn't have any fucking outlets on the side where all of my electronics are.

After my music computer went tits up a weekish ago, I rearranged the lab in order to shift to a no-permanent-routings paradigm. Wow. I feel like a teenager again, just having a great time doing whatever random ass shit I feel like every day. I might try to tidy it up a bit and take some pictures.

ya I love having the space to do that. NOrmally I have all my stuff in a 3-tier type setup, which makes it a pain to re-route things on the fly. I was thinking that a patchbay might make it easier though. That would mean I'd have to have even MORE patch cables though haha.

@jasondonervan: It's the dining table I took over when my wife leaves town haha. Normally I don't have a table. :D

I'm not even bothering with tiers, I've just got everything flat on a table. If I get sick of it, it goes back on the shelf.

ya I'd love a table, but I don't have space for it. The tiers are fine, but there are a couple of irritations with it, namely that my main computer is used for work, and lives on a separate table, requiring like 4 LONG leads to get sound to the monitors, and the soundcard.

Fucking annoying to have to do a bunch of wiring every time I want to make something. Soon we will be getting a proper studio space for our company though so I might colonize some portion of that :D We also have a small basement room in our flat building that I could potentially use, but there is no power in there. >:|

See, though, wiring it up every time is the whole point of my current configuration. :) I'm keeping all the gear I'm not using (and by "using" I mean that it's on and doing something) on a bookshelf. Only stuff I feel like playing with at any given moment is on the table, except Minidisc and 4-track recorder and an ancient laptop I'm only using to edit my micro modular.

I got a patch bay a few years ago and I ended up not using it much. In retrospect it just slowed me down & forced me to memorize yet another thing. But now, rerouting is as simple as could be.

This kind of setup isn't for everyone, obviously, but for someone as fickle as I am, it's very fun. I only wish I would've tried it sooner.
