Aphex Twin Aphex twin laptop?

Hey, nice little aphex forum....i was just wondering if anyone knows what model this sony vaio is in this picture

this is at a rephlex tour Bologne, 14th 2002.

I always thought he used Apple Mac Book pros?

but obviously not at this show, or is that just in the studio?

Im saving up to buy a new laptop and im not sure weather to go mac or just get a really good PC based laptop and a MOTU ultralite or something as the soundcard.

Only other debate is not being able to use Logic Audio 7 on PC but is it really that good anyway??

I have Sonar 4 on my desktop at the moment but im sure it gets better than that.

no offense, but it might be a bit silly to invest in a new laptop picked solely because rdj uses the same model...just a thought.

i'm not really a fan of logic myself, so i personally wouldn't see it as that much of a loss if you switched. there are a few better, and more intuitive programs out there. but, there are people on here who swear by logic, so it's just a preference on my end.

Hehe, I bought some headphones based off of a aphex interview. Actually it was that FM interview.

hes been uysing viaos for at least 3 years, he played wirth one at both glades the second time he had it stickered with what look like childrens stickers or somthing,

sorry i was unaware of the rules at the time of posting :P

but no one actually answered my question anyway, i just wondered what model the vaio was but i guess it could be hard to judge that one seeing as it could be a custom made one anyway.

and just cos i was trying to find out what it is doesnt mean im going to go out and buy it just cos aphex is using it, it would just be benificial to know for when i do decide which laptop im going to get thats all.

i currently am using

AMD athlonXP2000 (which isnt handling things to well lately) - huge spikes in cakewalk on CPU usage when project gets to big with VST's.

712MB ram

200g HD 72000

Sonar 4 Cakewalk.

But soon should have about £1000 to spend on a new laptop and external soundcard.

everyone uses different set-ups and are willing to swear by them, there are a fair amount of mac, vaio, and other users. i think the majority of members are willing to swear by reason music software but i've never used it myself.

edit: when you do upgrade i recommend getting 2 mb of ram. as far as the rdj vaio question goes, theres really no telling, sony revamped their complete line up of notebooks earlier this year. it probably is custom since you can customize vaios with a wide range of options via their website

also i should note there is no need to buy a soundcard with vaios, they have a 'docking station, which has rca inputs/outputs and other inputs/outputs. mine shipped with my laptop but you might have to buy one seperate.'

docking station?

surely u will need a USB soundcard to plug ur midi keyboard and any other MIDI device u need?

i would of thought they would come with a very basic soundcard inside nothing that could do zero latency and so on.

my bad no midi interface, dont have any other info, but the docking station is not a mandatory purchase

vaios are really good for traveling, not the greatest computers overall though. The new ones are built with a very strong exosekeleton case and they also come with a movement sensor, so in case you drop it or knock it while its on the hard drive immediately shuts off to prevent data loss. the screens on the new ones are also fucking nice, if you bring it outdoors in the sunlight it looks extremely bright unlike other LCD screens ive used.

He was talking about portable monitoring. He said there is no 'great' way to do it without real monitors but the best things to use were etymotic researches in-ear thingies. I got some ER4s's.

You have to install all of their shitty obnoxious software to even use the function keys on it, like for connecting it to an external monitor, for example.

You bumped a 7 year old thread for something that's not true ? (I have Vaio lappy sans any of their pre-installed software and all works fine - function keys, external monitor, the lot)
