Guest sicone
Hi I'm Sicone, You may remember me from such great ideas as: Let's remake SAW 85-92 or Let's insert our cocks into blenders Seriously guys - whats the worst that could happen: someone somewhere makes a song you don't like. Guest blutac
I think its an interesting idea, certainly not worthy of this hostility, its not like by doing this you wouldnt still be able to listen to the original. no one freaked out when wisp reworked SAWII a bit... I mean Id prefer the original, but it'd be interesting to hear, just as long as it wasnt done as badly as the many flim interpretations... impakt
There's a difference between remixing and remaking. A good remix album could be tasteful. Fred McGriff
it might serve you better to angle this idea as a tribute cover album, and acknowledge that the end result will be far inferior to the original (but not necessarily uninteresting) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/14426-selected-ambient-works-85-92-the-remake/page/2/#findComment-293198 Share on other sites
Joyrex
Goddamn guys - it's his first day on the forums and you lot are already tearing into him as if he was some Moby fan or something - his idea has merit, and honestly it's better than a lot of other musings about music I've read here lately... Oh, and this really belongs in the Aphex Twin forum, so i'm gonna move it there - not his fault though, as he's new. Guest analogue wings
Look at the bright side Sicone, you have "Worst First Post" and "Worst N00b" for the 06 WATMM awards pretty much in the bag. Also, you have set a new benchmark for horrible fanctfactiony things to do to electronic music. I honestly don't think I could top it. But I'll try... Quote Hay GuyZ! Here's my awesome new suggestion! U B TOM!!! That's right, in the great tradition of the Shadows Fan Club's U B Hank Series, I propose that we re-record all Squarepusher's great hits WITHOUT THE BASS. Now we can all jam along with Tom in our own homes!!! How could this great idea possibly fail!?!?!?!?!? zero
this idea reminds me of a review I read of madlib's shades of blue album, where madlib remade a bunch of old blue note classics. the disgruntled reviewer was comparing some of the tracks as like "pissing on a picasso." bottom line: what's already a classic should be left alone and not fucked with by outsiders. jedy
novayshun said: sicone said: Hi All, This may sound like heresy but has anyone thought about "remaking" SAW 85-92. I think it's some of the yummiest music ever composed but as for the sound quality - yuk and we all know why: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selected_Ambient_Works_85-92 I've heard it said that the tape hiss and other artifacts are desirable on this album but I disagree. Certainly some of the "lo-fi" (no offence intended) sounds are very desirable but the tape hiss??? come on. I've done some experiments with noise reduction and frankly it's not the way ahead as it artifacts too much and does nothing to bring back the missing top end. I've come to the conclusion that the only way to do this is to remake the entire album as faithfully as possible. Obviously, what the "correct" mix should sound like is open to interpretation as nobody has heard what the top end ever sounded like originally (except the man himself) but.... Have you ever made a bassline or warm pad or blippy bleep in your home studio and thought "hey that sounds just like "Agiespolis" only cleaner". Maybe the "final" version of any track would end up being a collaboration - my bassline, your bleeps and Kate from Norway's beats. Maybe there will be no final version just an open source project without an end. Maybe the twin himself could judge entries. Maybe someone has suggested this before and I'm 10 years late to the party. Whatever - thoughts on a postcard please. who the fuck do you think you are?? George Lucas?? lol i love you ivo Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures asdf Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/14426-selected-ambient-works-85-92-the-remake/page/2/#findComment-294001 Share on other sites
