Guest aeser
downloaded this demo on a suggestion, and yes this shit is pricey at $600 for a fucking reverb plug in (that's $100 more than digital performer for christs sake) but goddamn does this shit sound amazing. Guest iep
Yeah, convolution reverbs are the shit. I use SIR... 'cause it's free Check out Noisevault.com for lots of impulse responses from high-quality reverbs.. top of the range lexicons and that kinda shit... mcbpete
Cheers for the info iep. I've downloaded the SIR reverb VST from here: http://www.knufinke.de/sir/index_en.html and am gonna check out those responses soon. Guest iep
One thing: when using SIR it introduces 8960 samples of latency to your sequencer. This isn't really a problem when you have a host with plugin delay compensation, like Cubase SX3.. but the latency really sucks if you play alot parts over MIDI... so in that case your best off to use SIR as an 'post recording' plugin.. I heard that other, expensive, plugs like Altiverb and Waves IR-1 don't have such latency so if it really bothers you, you could check them out... good luck! For $600, you can buy a REAL tube spring reverb AND have change left over for a dedicated hardware digital reverb. Or a Space Echo. Or an Analogue Delay. $600 for a bit of software that'll be out of date in 2 years is REE tarded Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/1541-fucking-christ-altiverb-is-amazing/#findComment-29641 Share on other sites

mcbpete
Ooh, the delay really is noticable when using it with Buzz. I guess you could use it on a long texture pad rather than on some percussion. Guest iep
Yeah, that's because Buzz doesn't have PDC, plugin delay compensation... But even if your host has PDC, it still sucks when playing an external synth that your feeding into your PC... ah well, I should look into some high-end shit like Waves IR-1 or this Altiverb.. Guest boo
i saw some plug-in with an ugly UI for $1,500 the other day and URS EQ plug-ins for $100 weekly rental! what the fuck? if people can afford that, why not buy the superior hardware? Guest boffin
convolution verbs will never go out of date really but yeah 600 or whatever is fucking expensive for something thats just multiplying two pieces of audio. it's all down to the quality of the impulse files really. if my pc wasnae so shite i'd use convolution a lot, just now i do it at max quality offline for the odd wee sample rather than min quality cpu eating realtime stuff. try inputting pure white noise for awesome frozen-reverb style sounds. Bubba69
Theres a free amp sim that uses impulses and doesn't have the latancy problems of SIR. Voxengo Boogex You con load other non-cabinet impulses in and use it as a reverb if you are careful with the amp settings I'm sure. Havn't got around to trying it though. Nice amp sim BTW! Its lots of fun to play with, use it all of the time. Or an impulse response of an impulse reponse recorded through a shitload of other FX? Etc.. mcbpete
Yeah I don't know what the restictions on the wav are. But imagine using a BoC track or something as a response. Would it work like a Vocoder, oh I'll have to try it. Soo many options. Celatid
Anyone know how to write a vst? This claims to be an open source convolution reverb with low latency: http://www.ludd.luth.se/~torger/brutefir.html However, it's not a vst..... hmmm. Guest Keef Baker
Promo said: Whats the big difference between this and other reverbs. I just don't get it. Convolution is an odd beast. A normal reverb is made out of little tiny echoes and filters to replicate the sound of a room (unless it's a physical plate or spring) but convolution takes a tone and then examines mathematically how that tone was changed and applies that to a sound source.. The upshod is that you can take that tone to a church and get the exact sound of that church from that position or the likes of an effect box etc as convolution literally will change a sound source in a given way. I guess you could have convolution distortion or guitar amps if you wanted.
