Aphex twin's studio

Recommended Posts

Guest joshier

About a year ago, I was exploring sites such as richdjames.com, aphextwin.com etc etc..

Now, one day I went to richarddjames.com and low and behold, there was he, in (I think, his) studio working.

I didn't save the picture, I fucking wish I had, but does anyone have it?..

It was this fairly small studio, cramped, with lots of stuff contained in it.

Edit,

I also took a look at the source code and he left a funny secret message too, I forgot that also.

but the picture which is up a few replys was on rdj.com before analord came out

and the funy source code said "mashed potatoes" which a picture of all all his roland gear and a joystick..

interesting look into his analog process nonetheless....

what's the box with the exposed circuit board and the knobs in a row, just to the right of the akai/sample trigger?

I think I know the picture the first guy was talking about. It looked kinda like it was just a background, and it was kinda dark or something... not just a fan shot either, cause it looked kinda well thought out. Maybe him quietly performing live. I dunno. But it looked fairly recent.

possibilites i see are:

1) Board (or lack of cover) is decoration. It does look nice that way!

2) Board is part of the electronics driving the knobs, and it is exposed so he can touch the contacts with his fingers. When you circuit bend stuff, you spend lots of time poking things with your fingers, because often circuits will respond to their capacitence. So, this'd let him get circuit bent noises out of whatever it is.

3) He is using the board for the contact point thing I described, but it's just a dud scavenged board with some wires soldered underneath (and holes drilled for knobs), and what he's contacting is elsewhere...

if the knobs there are an original part of the board, i'd vote 1 or 2. if not, i'd vote 1 or 3.
