Magma - Mythes Et Legendes Vol. 3+4 DVD

I can't even imagine how many layers of awesome this is!

Guest halcyon the shop

Let's get this straight...

you were happy with your purchases, enough so to bother posting a list of them online.

You got a good deal on the purchase.

You found several things you liked that you would not have found elsewhere, including one, black light smoke, which is an exclusive at halcyon in NY (it's the owner's label)

but... you would never ever go back because the clerk who happened to be working at time didn't know everything you know... which apparently is everything there is to know about everything... so... despite her well meaning attempt to help you... you felt it appropriate to publicly make fun of her and dis the shop?

well, opinions being like assholes, you sure are one.

For the record...

sucks being publicly made to look like a fool, don't it?

vinyl:

dorothy ashby - afro harping

the tribe - a message from the tribe

detroit jazz composers ltd - hastings st. jazz experience

orchestre regional de mopti - les meilleurs souvenirs de la 1ere biennale artistique et culturelle de la jeunesse

claro intelecto - warehouse sessions vol 1 + 2 test pressings

black light smoke - switchback/black stripe; lovework/decisions 12"s

the claro intelecto and black light smoke purchases were total whims, but groupons got me all of that for around 50 bucks. pretty happy about it. that being said, i definitely don't plan on going to halcyon records in bk again.

when i asked the person working there whether they have any ghost box records stuff, she asked if it was a record label? ...then after looking it up on discogs or some dumb shit, she said they don't have any but has some suggestions for me to check out. she then walked me over to the "indie electronic" (lol) section, pulled out james blake's self-titled record and asked me if i've ever heard of him. NOPE

0. This made my day!

1. It's actually "Opinions are like assholes: everybody's got one". Convenient that you forgot the actual quote and its meaning.

2. I got a GREAT deal on the purchase—actually went out of my way to spend more than my groupon amount because I value independent record shops of special interest to me. But I was happy with the records I got—that has nothing to do with your store. The Claro Intelecto 12"s are the only releases aside from Black Light Smoke that I wouldn't be able to find elsewhere in nyc.

3. I'm not saying I wouldn't go back because the clerk wasn't familiar with Ghost Box Records (which were indeed not in stock when I went there and admittedly not popular to begin with). I've worked at record shops before and can attest to the difficulty in being familiar with all genres of music—obviously not to be expected of employees—but I recognize when employees answer my questions with a web search. As an ex-record shop employee, I have done that exact same thing, but even though I know now that that is quite literally a shot in the dark, that doesn't affect my decision not to return. (btw if you're actually that employee who didn't know what I was talking about, dude, I'm seriously not pissed at you. I've had the exact same shit happen to me tons of times before so I know you're not at all to blame for that. but if it is you...really? lol.

I decided not to shop at Halcyon again because it focuses on a number of electronic music niches that doesn't interest me. I don't like dubstep. Tech house and minimal clicks are boring to me. Drum and bass...still? Etc et al ad infinitum. I may find interest in some of the stock you guys have, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to your shop when I can find what I'm looking for at Permanent Records or some other shop with a spread of genres more relevant to my interests. It's the same reason I'm not at Fat Beats every day.

For obvious reasons though, now I don't think I'll be returning because apparently, I'm a fool for having a poor opinion of your record shop, anonymous employee/owner/now-watmmer. If anybody's the fool, wouldn't it be the person who goes out of their way to create an account on a small online message board to defend their record shop's reputation to the small ratio of people here that actually live in new york?

Somebody didn't like the shit your store had, and the employee didn't help them out in looking for what they requested. That's when you either:

A. Take note of what the person actually found fault with and address it, or

B. Politely ignore them.

Not whatever pathetic shit you're trying to pull right now. It's fine though—"the customer is always right" doesn't apply if you're a thick cunt. Seriously dude, grow a fucking pair.

halcyon whatever

selling electronic music that hasn't been popular since i sprouted my first pube

edit: seriously guys, shit just got REAL lol

I guess you have a right to be unhappy, though not sure why you feel the need to explain all of the minor problems to us. Nobody really cares. And Halycon has a right to defend his shop.

50/50

End of story.

Well my recent purchase was Two Lone Swordsmen- Tiny Reminders.

No human contact happened which can be either a good thing or a bad thing. Either way it's a classic chunk of electronic music. I also bought Big Loada by Squarepusher which I think will grow on me.

Need to buy some scuzzy rock and roll, gonna get that Fucked Up album soonish.

ollright nothing to see here lads

alright come on—he and i resolved things privately—no need to shit sling.

Prince — 1999: The New Master (haha)

Scion Arrange And Process Basic Channel Trax (feels GREAT to finally own this for real)

Bob Dylan — Down In The Groove (as promised, this album is terrible)

Sutekh — Incest Live (very psyched to find this randomly)

Stevie — Original Musiquarium 1 (JPN SHM-CD version; VERY psyched to find this randomly)

CoH — 0397 Post Pop (also very random, dig the first disc so far)

Also, fuck that store for coming on here and being a big baby. NEWS UPDATE: It's 2011 and you're a music store. The ONLY thing you have to offer that the Internet does not is being a friendly inviting place where people can chill out and maybe TALK to other humans about music. Literally EVERYTHING ELSE YOU DO the Internet does better. So, if you are being a huge cranky uninviting bitch then you've just nullified the only (probably still inadequate, but still) reason for your own existence.

I mean literally the only reason to go into a music store these days is because it's pleasant, has a nice vibe, etc. I never go back to places that seem unfriendly or act uninviting to my business, life is too short. Wah

Oh also

VA — Echocord Jubilee Comp

VA — Back And 4th (Hotflush)
