i like burial and some scorn and boxcutter, but the overwhelming majority of dubstep is complete garbage, and in my opinion doesnt warrant its own scene or genre or whatever

It sounds like you have no clue what the "overwhelming majority" of dubstep sounds like 'cause you haven't listened to it...there are a ton of other great dubstep producers out there, it's not as derivative as those who diss it like to claim.
