[b]Aphex Twin, B&S, Silver Jews Play Triptych Festival

There are a boatload of music festivals in the UK and Europe but few, if any, can top Scotland's Triptych in terms of sheer ambition and scope. Truly, it may very well be the coolest festival...IN THE WORLD.

Spanning five days (April 26-30) and three cities (Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen), Triptych presents over 100 jaw-dropping artists-- seriously, it looks like a bunch of top ten lists exploded all over the place. Past performers have included Wire, Super Furry Animals, Chuck D, Fairport Convention, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Franz Ferdinand, LCD Soundsystem, and Herbie Hancock, just to name a few. This year features A Certain Ratio (!), Belle and Sebastian, Mogwai, the Fire Engines (!!), Long Blondes, Arab Strap, Aphex Twin (!!!), Silver Jews, Vashti Bunyan, Roxanne Shante (!!!!), and all of the following people:

Countrymen Belle and Sebastian and Arab Strap will curate special events, and if all that wasn't enough, Triptych will also screen films. Titles include "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey," the Charles Mingus documentary "Triumph of the Underdog," and the appropriate "Festival!" which showcases the performances of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Joan Baez, and Triptych performer Odetta, among others, at the Newport Folk Festival in the 1960s. To cap off Triptych, three film crews will create and screen a documentary of the festival itself.

Damn, we sure wish we lived in Scotland right now.
