Does anyone know of any FFT/Spectral resampler VSTs

Recommended Posts

There's a sound that I've heard many a time on different tracks (Aphex Twin - Equation (about 1 min and also about 2min 30) is one, the start of u-Ziq - On/Off and Silk Tie is two others), but have no idea how to achieve the sound. It seems to be like a bit of a spectral mush as if the track has been mp3'd at a really low bit rate, it's probably called like an FFT resampler or something but I can't find anything. But yeah does anyone know of any VSTs that can do this effect (preferably free ones !)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

there is a program called spear. its free. pretty nifty. not sure if it runs on PC, but I know it works on macs.

I dont think its FFT... its some other method?

Yeah I've tried the PC version of Spear. It's pretty nice, especially when you can freeze like a single grain of the sound, I'm thinking however more of a realtime-VST thing where instead of like a resampler distortion effect where you can drag the sample rate or bit depth up or down, it'd be one that controls the FFT window size. Or is such things beyond realtime signal processing?

I think the sound you're after comes from the macbased metasynth,

if not searching for spectral stuff on kvr can help:

http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php?mode=resul...t=3&rpp=100

Hoozaa !! Good ol' KVR, I really should've checked there first.

The threshold control on this: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2467.html did EXACTLY what I needed. Plus it's free. Thanks so much Jubal

Hmm unfortunately the thing introduces about 4 years worth of latency (but aside from that is perfect). Anyone know of a similar machine that'll do the trick ?

Yea, Sp3ctr3 would be awesome if it wasn't such a cpu hog...Like i've stated before, try the anarchy effects bundle and grm tools bundle. Their spectral effects are extremely cpu efficiently and good. If you can't find cracked copies then pm me, as i still might have the install files.

edit: found them on my external drive, so if you need me you know what you can do

Anarchy FX will do this exact effect for you without more than the usual VST effect latency.

Its on pc only, not free and not even for sale anymore. The only way to get it is to steal it from filesharing networks like Emule

get the anarchy effects regardless

the corkscrew and the harmonic adder are fucking badass

Yeah I just 'obtained' them. Although the effects weren't exactly the same as the sp3tra one they were still pretty rad cheers mrx (et al) for the suggestion. Trying the geometer one now.

you can get those effects with additive synthesis, get something like discodsp vertigo, you can get some really cool sounds out of that one if you dive into it.
