And a quick µ-Ziq noob/jzzbnd question: Has Mike P ever actually said what the actual relevance of Duntisbourne Abbots (as in the place) is to the songs on the album?

Yeah, that's what I thought as well LUDD. Was just curious if he'd ever mentioned publicly the place itself as well the other stuff that had gone into his making the album.

seemed folks were saying it was shit but from the sound samples, it sounds like the best thing since Royal Astronomy. i'm certainly going to pick this up now that i've found out i don't have to listen to all that annoying as fuck drill n bass/breakcore stuff anymore.

Yeah, I need to pick this one up too.

P.S. It's nice and quiet in the µ-Ziq sub-forum. A man can actually hear himself think.

i gave this a listen and wow, what a totally underwhelming album, it meanders and nothing stands out.

i give this album a strong meh.

the biggest illusion is yourself

I dropped out of electronic music for awhile and managed to completely not hear there was a new mu-Ziq until just over a month ago. There are some great melodies on this one, for sure (2CV) but in general it sounds to me like he put a Kid Spatula amount of effort into it but wants us to take it seriously.

I dunno, production-wise Royal Astronomy was definitely a step down from Lunatic Harness/Brace Yourself and had more of a cheesy/pop feel to it, especially with all the phony orchestral sounds. I think it's still a pretty solid release though and has some really memorable, catchy tracks (fuckin World Of Leather, hell yes).

Duntisbourne Abbots on the other hand just seems like a half-assed effort. It's nice enough, and will probably grow on me with time when I actually bother to give it more listens, but it just doesn't seem to have as much substance to it.

Royal astronomy was utter wanks.

carpet muncher was great.

i tried Duntisbourne Abbotts again last night, forced myself to listen to the whole thing, and i still hate it. it's so bloody depressing to listen to. especially while looking at the album art

i certainly thought Bilious Paths was the one with the least substance. a plateauxing of his sound and not a move forward but rather sideways. Duntisbourn Abbots is definately a movement.

Carpet Muncher WAS great, i don't think i enjoyed anything else on royal astronomy apart from maybe the last tune.

Duntisbourne is lush though, who gives a shit if he uses the same sounds throughout when the composition is that great. Some of those tracks are fucking gorgeous.

Bilious Paths was wicked as well..a move sideways? Plateauxing of his sound? It doesn't sound like any other of his releases.

I'm seeing him next week, wahey.

Royal Astronomy is the pure musical soul of Mike. its the Dungeons & Dragons computer music nerd album he was always meant to make. its so him. it's all there in plain sight (/sound).

It sounds too much organic FL Studio free VST for me, but the µ-Ziq touch is there. An OK album will I say.

Well, I'm going to listen to Kubba right now, damn I love this song.
