Free Audio Software for Windows/MacOS

Recommended Posts

I remember making a post on Gearslutz about how much great freeware there was and how you don't really need to even buy plug-ins unless you need some sort-of specialized one. Needless to say my post was ferociously downvoted.

Giada is a free, minimal, hardcore audio tool for DJs, live performers and electronic musicians. How does it work? Just pick up your channel, fill it with samples or MIDI events and start the show by using this tiny piece of software as a loop machine, drum machine, sequencer, live sampler or yet as a plugin/effect host. Giada aims to be a compact and portable virtual device for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows for production use and live sets.

Atlantis is an awesome synth. Sort of like Massive in that it has wavetable and morphing between two waves and lots of modulation possibilities. There's a quite extensive selection of filters and per-voice fx.

Luckily it's a synthesizer so you can make sounds you like.

its true, but i'm one who likes to try every synthesizer ever made, and they dont always fit like a glove if you do indeed catch the drift that is mine ;) ;)

to put it another way, i keep hearing about atlantis for years and years but every time i tried it, i didnt get instant satisfaction. same for green oak crystal, as well as oatmeal, all of which seemed to be revered but ive never seen them in action doing something that i thought sounded like something that i particularly liked. sometimes presets themselves offer such folks that are me a new vista upon that which previously i had not had a clear vision if you will of.

Oatmeal is lovely if luck is on your side. Was rubbish at synthesis a few years ago so absolutely adored the 'random' button on it to come up with synth sounds that I'd no idea how they were made.

Made this just from that -

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

FWIW, here's a track I made with Atlantis. The arpy synth is Massive but the other synth is Atlantis.

What I find nice about it is the huge selection of filters and processors, and the modulation possibilities ofc.

thats brutal!

I won't give up on these yet.

:nyan: an ilok account is mandatory

UltraChannel does not require you to own or use an iLok dongle, but the iLok License Manager and an ilok.com account are required to use the plugin.

How obtrusive is ilok ? It's really tempting but ... something seems oddly suspicious about this release

Have you tried running Ableton in administrator mode - I've got a whole bunch of VST/i s that 'magically' reappeared when I did that.
