Draft 7.30

Recommended Posts

this was the first ae i bought on vinyl. i used to mix most tracks with hip hop tracks back in those days... this album kinda sounds like a futuristic ghetto! basically, when this album came out, i worked night shift. i'd drive home and pass some industrial areas of L.A. and Downtown L.A. listening to this album at around 2 am while passing 18 wheeler trucks. awesome times!

Whoa...

I'm jealous that you guys like this album as much as you do.

Makes me feel like I'm missing out.

I feel the same way... about Confield!

Don't understand why so many of you like it so much but most of the fanboys here seem to get their rocks off on it. My least favourite album!

*ducks*

And yet I really dig Draft 7.30!

Nice to have you visit this thread Bob :)

I'm genuinely disappointed about your Confield comments :(

But I respect your opinion :)

I love AE :)

Today if fucking CLICKED. After about a year of occasionally dipping into it, putting Xylin on a mix, I played it on my sennheisers, and boom! everything was golden. I'm just happy.

I absolutely HATED this album with a passion...

Until last week.

I think perhaps an appreciation for noise rock and darker films helped me get into it. I don't think of it differently at all, I just like what I used to hate about it. I used to hate it's clunky, dark, lazy melodies, now I don't mind them, and sometimes love them.

I still think of it as being vastly dumbed down compared to Confield, EP7 and LP5... but there's nothing wrong with a bit of fun noise every now and again. Maybe even my growing appreciation for more pop oriented music actually helped me appreciate it, I now don't feel like everything I listen to has to be a deeply moving and cerebral experience.

So Draft is more shallow and self-indulgent to me than their other albums. It's a mind bender sure, but in a more fun, loose way than their other albums. I still think there are some really weak tracks on it that let it down a bit (I really don't like Tapr, Theme of Sudden Roundabout or Vl Al 5) but the tracks I do like I think are excellent, and make it at least worth a listen every now and again.

I'm not going to lie... It'd be better if you left this thread and don't turn back.

I finally started to like the majority of this album recently too. Parts of it kind of started clicking with me after taking a long break from it. Still don't see what the big fuss is about some of the tracks that people love, Surripere, Vproc, and Reniform Puls to be more specific. The tracks start off so strong and then just start to become abrasive to me and I get wholly annoyed by the sharp angular timbres by the end.

However, I absolutely love a few tracks now and can at least enjoy most of the others.

That's my problem with a lot of tracks from Draft and Untilted as well. They tend to end up in this neurotic viscious cycle or something.

I used to think this way as well, but I don't mind now. I still wish Surripere would sort of grow into something more dense and beautiful, but if I wanted to hear that I guess I should just listen to Chiastic Slide or Tri Repetae. At least but destroying they're own songs they're doing something new.

I think it works best on Surripere, it's like they took a living, breathing being that was in an accident and then put it in an iron lung. But it wasn't waking up so they thought "well let's just put some robot bits on him so it can at least walk around a bit..." and they kept adding robot bits until it wasn't really "alive" any more.

V-Proc is just plain fun. Sure the intro is the best bit (best bit of the album IMO) but the rest is neat too in a fun dancey way. I kinda wish the intro was the end instead, so the song got better as it went along :P

I do get a little frustrated by the last 3/4 of Reniform Puls tho. I like Lentic Catachresis cos it gets absolutely disturbingly noisy and mad in the last 3/4, but Reniform just sorta... putters out...

Tapr is by far my least favourite... I couldn't listen to it at all for a long time... I can at least stomach it now.

I don't mind VL AL 5... it just doesn't seem very interesting to me. Kinda sounds like the most generic electronic music kinda thing on there... like something from an Intelligent Toys comp but without the prettiness. And I just get really impatient because I loooove P:NTIL :P

Yeah strange, this recently clicked with me too. I think it's because modern music has finally caught up with Autechre, something in the air, something psychological. Suddenly I can understand this album fully, and it's fucking beautiful. I used to think Confield was their masterpiece, the untoppable mammoth beast of an album, but now I realize the Draft is just as good. There is a philosophy here. These guys are composers, truly modern geniuses. When Draft clicked I just smiled, I never thought it would happen. I wonder if Quaristice will ever click.

A few months ago I posted on this thread that VL AL 5 had become enjoyable after 5 years of not noticing its quality, and just last week Theme Of Sudden Roundabout clicked into place and have been listening to it constantly ever since.

Caralaaaaaan......God is in......his holy temple........

Well, I thought it was a very lovely

story. And you tell it so well. With

such enthusiasm.

(Bob Wilson) Sorry... you created that reality tunnel, you can find your way out... You built the Trap... you know the design better than anyone...sagatsfz3stage.jpg

Guest Randolph Carter

Vl AL 5-- Hearkens back to Garbage which I thoroughly enjoy. Nothing weak about Garbage. Nothing.

Tapr--Absolutely brilliant! Where does the loop start? Or end for that matter? I still get confused sometimes. What a great ride.

Both of these tracks, as well as the rest of Draft, are soooooo good.
