Aphex Twinerview missing?

Recommended Posts

There is a Aphex Twin interview in French, but I am 100% sure that i've seen a full English version of it, but I cannot find it anymore. Anyone know where it is?

This is the French version:

i'll give it a try, please excuse my poor english:

"no, i'm not trying to have an identity, i think it's boring really.

but the thing is, you have to create an identity to sell your records unfortunately. and i have to sell records to earn some money so i don't have to work at mcdonald's. so it's part of the job, having an identity.

i always need to create all the time or i get pretty mad.

i never really tried to sound like something, i aways wanted to make a music that would sound like nothing else. it's the only music i'm into actually.

to make electronic music, you have to get interesting sounds out of synthesizers and give them something human.

usually i prefer to create music lonely. i just like to make music but not to talk about it, like in an interview, it's quite difficult. especially for electronic music, coz i think ther's nothing to be talked about. it's not like with pop or rock music and music with lyrics. you can talk about the lyrics, they have a meaning. but electronic music is something more abstract, i think it's not interesting if you start to talk about it. i listen to music with my friends but we don't really say around and talk about it you know, we just listen to it.

today when i go in the studio i have tracks that are almost already written in my mind. it's been like 3 years that i don't waste time anymore looking for inspiration. actually, the ideas come so fast that i can't make them all happen. i'm never in a state of looking for inspiration."

Thanks for the translation, have been wanting to know all of what he was saying. Here are some english bits I caught and was able to quote them directly.

I mean I'm not after any sort of identity, I just think that it's... boring really. The only thing is, you have to have some sort of identity in order to sell your records unfortunately, and i'd like to sell some records so that maybe I don't have to work at mcdonald's. so it's part of the job, having an identity.

and I've always sort of like had a need to create music all the time or i get pretty mad.

i never really tried to start any routine, i aways wanted to make a music that sounded different than anything else I've heard before. that's the whole thing I like about music basically

electronic music is, taking something interesting out of synthesizers and recording it into something human.

well usually i prefer to work alone. I mean I hate the sort of... I just like to make music and not have to really talk about it much, like in an interview, it's sort of quite difficult. especially for electronic music, coz i don't think it's the sort thing that electronic music isn't meant to be talked about. it's not like with pop or rock music and music with lyrics. It's more sort of directed towards, you know you can talk about it and stuff, they have meaning, where as with it's electronic it's more abstract. It sort of, I think it sort of undermines it when you start to talking about it really. Like all my friends and I listen to electronic music, but we don't really, sit around and talk about it you know we just listen to it. (half-way laughs)

Like today I just, i went up to the studio to produce whole tracks that are almost already written in my mind. For the last, say like 3 years, like um, the one thing I haven't just, the only thing I haven't gotten used is that everytime I go in there, I know exactly what I want to do, and uh, usually because I have ideas faster than I can get them out usually, so I'm not ever in the studio without ideas, basically.
