manmower
To me it sounds like (just) another good album by Beck, still doesn't really grab me though. At least Guero got a "best since Odelay" out of me, even if it wasn't very original for the most part. I hate how Cat Power's contributions are for the most part barely audible. Because it's sort of making me think he really just met up with her to talk her into Narconon and that wickedy wackedy cult of his. Which frankly, I would find just a little fucked up. Mellow U
I've had this on LP since a week ago and it's only gotten better upon repeated listens. I don't really get where all the negative response is coming from here - it seems like there's something in it for everyone who likes various flavors of Beck...I mean, remove the drums and accompaniment from "Gamma Ray" and you have a Mellow Gold-style single-guitar-string song...then the ending of "Orphans" with all the harmonies could've easily been on Mutations. "Volcano" sounds like a Sea Change track, and "Profanity Prayers" is straight outta The Information. Ironically I don't hear a ton of Odelay or Midnite Vultures on this one, but I think that's mostly due to the fact that Beck doesn't rap at ALL on Modern Guilt. Either way, I agree with the consensus of "just another good album by Beck" - no, it isn't groundbreaking or anything he hasn't necessarily tampered with before, but I like his style and it's so damn short it never outstays its welcome. I'm just happy he's making music this consistently good still, considering how long he's been around. With any luck, he'll be 60 and doing weird blues albums. Zephyr_Nova
This is a good album. Maybe not great for a Beck album, but a really good album either way (Guerro's the only album of his I can't get behind). Chemtrails is one of the best songs he's ever written, absolutely gorgeous. I'm not a huge fan of Danger Mouse's production, but it's a cool change of pace from the sonics of Beck's previous releases. Guest Sir Winston
@ Plum. The fact you did not see on the news recently '4CHAN NERDS DESTROY SCIENTOLOGY LOL' gives you an idea on how it went. Also got this and its another fucking average beck album, damn he sucks balls after he turned 24. Scrap that 20. Get that guitar out and pretend you are a wacky Bob Dylan again dammit.
