I was at a party the other day with this dude from England, and I mentioned that Aphex Twin is from Cornwall. And he was like, "CORNWALL!?? They talk like pirates in Cornwall!" And then he did the best pirate impression I've ever heard.

Can any WATMMers who live in or near Cornwall confirm this? Do you guys talk like pirates?

Guest kid hideous

I hurt myself today

To see if I still feel

I focus on the pain

The only thing that's real

The needle tears a hole

The old familiar sting

Try to kill it all away

But I remember everything

What have I become

My sweetest friend

Everyone I know

goes away

In the end

And you could have it all

My empire of dirt

I will let you down

I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns

Upon my liar's chair

Full of broken thoughts

I cannot repair

Beneath the stains of time

The feelings disappear

You are someone else

I am still right here

What have I become

My sweetest friend

Everyone I know

goes away

In the end

And you could have it all

My empire of dirt

I will let you down

I will make you hurt

If I could start again

A million miles away

I would keep myself

I would find a way 211513.jpg

ummm, I'm from Cornwall and I think people from Devon have more of a Pirate twang than the Cornish. Although every little town in Cornwall has at least one pub full of proper job locals who can be pretty damn hard to under stand. I guess you could call them Pirates, although thats because their likley to try and lay a new drive for you or fix your car and then rip your wallet out through your ass for liberty. Proper Pirates!

there was a repeat of an episode of QI recently when they talked about pirate accents, how people do them. basically, there was a film in the dim and distant past, and the guy who played one of the leads did that typical accent for the first time, and it's kind of stuff.

all people in cornwall talk like pirates, if they were born there.

One and all. AaARggH. Yeah you cant get into the Sandsifter nights if you don't have an eyepatch, stink of fish, a pasty in your gob, a surfboard under one arm and a diseased whore under the other. Its just the way they do it down here, no one is there for the music. They just fight and pillage to the beat.

Yes, his name was Robert Newton, and he basically invented the stereotypical pirate voice that everyone now copies. It should be noted that it would be ridiculous for the entire population of a county to have exactly the same (invented) accent.
