I've tried with this album quite hard but I can't find it anything other than a little nice. I don't understand the hype they get, aside from a handful of great songs I've always thought they were pretty average

Have you heard the Young Liars EP?

No but I've heard Staring in the Sun obviously, which is one of the handful I really love. I didn't see the point if I didn't enjoy the long players too much. I'll give it a go

Young Liars EP was my intro to TV on the Radio, and it certainly is a classic. Although, I probably like it just as much as Desperate Youth and Cookie Mountain.

After demoing Dear Science on Myspace I must say that I'm a tad disappointed. I'll still pick this up of course and hopefully have it grow on me, but as for now their are only a few stand out tracks. But! When I got Cookie Mountain I felt the same way. It's a different sound for them and that's cool. Off the bat I seem to be drawn to the more Tunde-centric songs.

I am kind of missing the whole A cappella/whistling/barbershop/doo-wop thing, as it has always been one of my favorite components of TV on the Radio, but I'm not going to hold them in a single place.

I'll be coming back to this thread once I let the album sink in more.

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

but there's doo-wop on this album ...

Well, I'm listening to the first track and for me it blows anything else I've heard by hem right out of the water. I've always thought their lyrics were brilliant, and they've got their own distinct style. Those are the two things I've appreciated about them without actually liking the music or production all that much. But i'm onto the second track of Dear Science and I must say I'm loving both the music and production, plus the elements that made them stand out before are still present. Think i'll go pick this up now.

be careful, the first track is easily the best track on the album

Upon first listening, I agree that it is the strongest of the lot, but I still liked almost every other track on this one better than my favorite tracks off Cookie Mountain. Dear Science is a damn good album! Or at least, an instantly gratifying one. Maybe I'll grow tired with it faster for it.

why does everyone love young liars so much? other than satellite and staring at the sun, which is on desperate youth, it's simply a good ep.. i thought return to cookie mountain was phenomenal, and i feel that it is their best work so far..

as far as dear science, i really like it, but it's not as good as cookie mountain to me. could it be that it's because the album isn't named after a place in super mario world? just kidding.. i feel that the album is very listenable throughout. the only tracks that haven't really grabbed me yet are golden age and lover's day, and i've been listening to this album nearly everyday for about 2 weeks, so i guess that means that i will never like them. my personal favorites are dancing choose, stork and owl, and red dress. i really like family tree as well.

Young Liars EP

Satellite: is amazing, the way the vocal delivery comes together (as it does on the title track) make it extra special. It's the perfect introduction to the EP as well as the band

Staring at the Sun: Simply no one can fault this song. It will always be there crown jewel. they use it to close most sets, it's infectious, urgent. It's the best

Blind: Maybe you had of been listening to the record at a certain period in your life, but this song was a heart breaker. It's romantic, melodic, longing. It's a good counterpoint to the sounds of the EP.

Young Liars: Lyrically the best of the best entire career IMO. Tunde wrote this shit to get locked into your brain. I sing this song in the car all the time.

Mr Grieves: Doo wop from Hell. A cover that beats The Pixies' original, if there ever was one. Great closer.

The EP is straight up perfection.

Finally got 'Dear Science' tonight. Only finished my first listen, but I like it a lot. A bit more straight up, and not quite as striking as 'Cookie Mountain', but certainly not weak from my first impression. Got it from iTunes, has three extra tracks on it.

seriously. this song is a fucking gem, and the lyrics are beautiful. someday suppose that my curious nervousness steals into prescience clairvoyant consciousness...

i downloaded dear science but havent listened much yet. something about it turned me off. but then return to cookie mountain took a while to grow on me, so hopefully this will too.
