Coathanger and Planet Gear are decent, and the whole albums production sounded really good on the Bleep clips, but there is this bizarre cheeseyness that seems to flow through this release. I can handle some electric guitar and the classical guitar sounds great, but a lot of the squealing distorted guitar just makes my ears cringe. The Glass Road seems to be a particular offender, not sure if I'll be able to get into that one.

I've been giving the lot a decent listen through.. on the home stereo, ipod and the car..

. I think its winner overall.

Nice poppy tracks at the start . 2 of which sound great live.. as in bangface set. Then you have the main boddy of distorted trash-funk. These really grow on you and will sure to be massive concert pleasers in the december tour........the last few songs wind the album down nicely.

I'd have loved the bangface unreleased stuff on this but nothing wrong with pusher keeping these for his live sets - hey either way they're out there. Ideally breezeblock will have him back and he did let it rip on that show in '04. It's a well put together studio piece of work but i look forwward to the future live renditions a lot more.

Pusher always saves the best for outside the studio!

am i the only one having problems downloading this thingy from bleep?

this sounds like an airplane landing on a minefield

I miss some of the drill crazyness from previous albums

Now that time has passed, Ultravisitor has aged really well to my ears (but not at the same level of Big Loada)

Hello Everything was so melodic and friendly, I liked it fully after some few listenings

I think every Squarepusher is a challenge, and this new one will take it's time since it's so rock music oriented

by the way, I don't like the "rock" bands from warp

I liked this album on first listen and have grown to pretty much love it over the week. Another nice upshoot (apart from the surprise bleep d/l) is that's rekindled my interest in Sqp for the first time in a good while (my bad). It's been nice getting back into his stuff again this week.

Bonus track Syntax 2 on the Japanese CD, according to HMV Japan.

Non-edit: forgot to check if that was Jazz.

I don't know, this delta v song is cool, but I hope the whole record doesn't

sound like this, the whole song sounds of live intruments,

I don't want the computer and synths to be thrown out the window.

It's sound squarepusher'ish, but not squarepusher'ish enough...

werent too keen after hearing the bleep clips... but after hearing the whole album the whole way through it is pretty good. star time 2 & the glass road are my favs, very skilled complex fusion jazz rock music. tbh i fuckin hate the sound of the drums hes using, the hi hats sound too clear and the snare sounds like a toy, anyone know if hes playin or programmed drums?

I was a bit disapointed aswell that it was a jazz rock type album, i was expecting something like big loada + ultravisitor. maybe next time...

....

Great album..... "The Coathanger" is incredible.. "the swifty" meets "f-train" and "talk about you and me"

I miss those 4 tracks he played at bangface though.... I suppose they are made prior 2008..

He also canceled two bass solo shows he supposed to be doing this year, because he was busy paying

homage to his "vision". And no sign of a breezeblock live session yet... I doubt that "Syntax 2" is something other than a leftover of "Souvenir", or new track that could fit in the album..

  • 3 weeks later...

So... if it's any indication as to what to expect, Syntax 2 is 1:45 long. Not a complete pisstake, more a little frustrating as on first listen it promises to develop into something pretty sexy. I'd say better than most of the short interludes on JAS, but still a short interlude. I wasn't expecting anything mindblowing, to be fair.

However, I am EXTREMELY disappointed that the Japanese JAS didn't come with an obi strip, just one of those resealable CD-sized plastic envelopes (a la Minerals) with a Japanese sticker on the front.
