the anti-reverb thing, i feel the need to bring it up

i always thought reverb effects sucked but altiverb is pretty wicked and complex i highly reccomend it

to me, stereo effects are even better than reverb effets, i really love to use certain filtered audio signals to modulate de pan of the stereo out

that way you can create really really good sounds or really really bad sounds that makes you think somebody's pissing in your skull like the last 10 seconds of pro radii lol

in a previous watmm there was a thread in which most people disapproved of the use of reverb effects in electronic music. it was suggested that only long release was acceptable, not sure if delay or chorus were approved.

What idiot said this bullshit?

Sounds like the ramblings of a newbie who doen't know how to produce a mix or a wind up!

No reverb in electronic music eh? Well that writes off about 99.9% of the eletronic music produced in the last 30yrs LOL.

Digital Reverb is awesome, making the size of the room very small and the mix of verb very high makes a really cool sound. Also, you got to love reverse reverb...nearly all my tracks end up having some small bits of reversed reverb to add build-up. But lately I've experimented with going out to this large vertical hallway and playing my Acoustic Bass, and picking it up on a tape recorder....the effect is amazing.

only lately have i gotten into reverb as a dark art. before i agreed that reverb was best used in smal small amounts, but now im into it. i think its really important for getting fuller mixes out of things for dance music or anything you want to sound heavy on a big system, especially snares claps rims etc.

there was also a thread in which people dismissed stereo in electronic music as a 'gimmicky effect' (but recording instruments for certain music it was said not to be). lee perry was quoted, 'one love, one channel' or some shit.

but why? why should a synthesizer sound like an instrument recorded in anechoic chamber? furthermore, if the initial sound is synthesised, why not use a synthesised reverb in synthesised stereo? surely it's makes sense to synthesise everything.

but anyway, it would be cool to take a synth to a big hall and record it.

try altiverb 6 dammit !!!!!!! just listen to altibzz by ae

i think i get what the tauboo man was talking about. in a completely electronic sense, there would be no natural reverb, or very little anyway (not audible). reverb only occurs in a "natural" sense in the world, sound bouncing off walls and trees stuff...in a circuit board there is of course no acoustics therefor no reverb therefor ok now i actually kind of like the idea of no reverb a lot

My friend and I use a lot of reverb and delay to create a kind of athmosphere which gives an illusionary spatial dimension.

reverb can let you be lazy, when you fill in a hole with reverb instead of a new sound. however, it can do other non-shortcutish things: i find reverb useful for "blurring" a sound, both programming trax and live. i can see why you might not want to "blur" any of your sounds for aesthetic reasons -- because reverb isn't in the mental picture you have for your music. in that case, it isn't banned... merely not involved.

on the computer, with plugins, i have a grand old time abusing 'verb. i've done melodies with it -- use one of the sends to fire off my hihat line into some delays flangers then a massive reverb. compress that with really fucked up dynamics run it into ms20 plugin, audio to cv, dick around until it's stew.

is that still using reverb??? i mean, the reverb plugin is part of the sound, but you don't hear any reverb per se....

hopefully this means those strange anti-reverb people have changed their minds.

i wouldn't say i'm anti reverb but too much lazy use of reverb can cheapen

music in the same way that lazy overuse of a preset 808 kit can cheapen your music

that's why i shiver when somebody tells me to check out a new ambient track

Q: How did MC Hammer escape the tragedy of 9/11?

A: He floated down using his parachute pants.
